Live racing at Woodbine Racetrack has been cancelled for Friday, July 3, as work continues to address an underground infrastructure issue that has already disrupted this week’s schedule.
Woodbine Friday racing cancelled
Woodbine Entertainment confirmed that contractors remain on site carrying out repairs, with efforts continuing to restore normal operations as quickly as possible. The latest cancellation follows the loss of Thursday’s programme, prompting officials to revise the weekend schedule while discussions continue over an additional race date.
With both Thursday and Woodbine Friday racing cancelled, officials have announced that the seven races originally scheduled for Thursday will now be incorporated into an expanded 12-race programme on Sunday. The revised card is intended to ensure that the affected races are completed while maintaining the remainder of the weekend fixture.
The ongoing infrastructure work remains the immediate priority, and racecourse management has stated that contractors are continuing repairs beneath the facility. Further updates will be issued as progress is made.
Woodbine Entertainment is also in discussions with the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) regarding the possibility of staging an additional race meeting on Monday, July 6, to help accommodate the disrupted schedule.
At this stage, no decision has been confirmed on the proposed Monday fixture. Participants and racing fans are expected to receive further information once those discussions have concluded.
The announcement means Woodbine Friday racing cancelled remains the latest adjustment to the Canadian racing calendar this week, with officials focused on completing repairs and returning the venue to its regular programme as soon as conditions allow.
For horse racing followers, Sunday’s expanded card is now set to become the focal point of the weekend, while attention also turns to whether an additional meeting can be added early next week.
