Evening Flat Racing Returns to Chepstow on Friday

Nestled beside the River Wye, Chepstow Racecourse will stage a competitive seven-race Flat meeting on Friday, 3 July, with the opening race scheduled for 4:37pm and the final contest set for 7:53pm. The programme will feature a balanced mix of handicaps, a novice contest and a classified race, catering for progressive three-year-olds as well as experienced older horses. Races will be contested over distances ranging from 5f 16y to 1m 4f, while the day’s highest prize fund will stand at £11,200.

The meeting will get underway with the LSL Racing Horse Sales Syndication Leasing Handicap Stakes (Class 5) at 4:37pm. The £9,000 contest for three-year-olds will be run over 1m 4f and is expected to feature five runners. Ohara, Eloquencia, Last Verse, Battosai and Rumbustious will line up in the opening race of the afternoon.

The action will continue at 5:10pm with the UB40 Ft. Ali Campbell 24th July Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (Class 5). Worth £9,000, the 1m 4f contest for fillies and mares aged four years and older will bring together Twilight Moon, Jindri, Oasis Sunrise, Dance Time, Green Sky and Nuptown Girl in a six-runner field.

The Together Again Festival Handicap Stakes (Class 4) will follow at 5:43pm. Run over 7f 16y, the race for three-year-olds and upwards will offer £11,200 in prize money. The expected runners are Dr Strangelove, Morte Point, Diamondonthehill, Aspull, Society Man and Supreme King, ensuring another competitive contest.

Attention will then switch to the Novice Stakes (Class 4) (GBB Race) at 6:15pm. Covering 7f 16y and carrying a purse of £10,000, the race will feature seven runners comprising Deadline, Far From Fern, Flagraiser, The Golden Snitch, Vastern, Fractional and Name The Day, with several unexposed performers set to continue their development.

The fifth race on the card will be the Classified Stakes (Class 6) at 6:45pm. The 5f 16y sprint for three-year-olds and older will be worth £6,600 and is expected to attract eight runners. The line-up includes Bama Lama, Banana, Daley T, Darkened Edge, River Edge and Snow Boots, adding further variety to the evening programme.

The penultimate event, the Welsh Racing Festival 9th–11th October Handicap Stakes (Class 6), will begin at 7:18pm. The three-year-old handicap over 1m 14y will carry £8,000 in prize money and is expected to feature Ernie McCrew, Anorah Unleashed, Buckland Belle, Violet Goldsmith, Lady Of Clover and Alice’s Influence among the declared runners.

The meeting will conclude with the Family Fun Day 31st August Handicap Stakes (Class 4) at 7:53pm. Run over 6f 16y, the closing handicap for three-year-olds will offer £11,200 in prize money. The expected field includes Sanaam, Star Material, Moscow Power, Evie Ross, Blue Orbit and Grey Horizon, bringing Friday’s programme to a close.

Chepstow’s Friday fixture will provide a varied evening of Flat racing, combining staying contests, competitive handicaps, a novice race and a sprint across seven races. With a mix of established performers and progressive younger horses scheduled to compete, the meeting will offer another well-balanced programme at one of Wales’ best-known racecourses.
