Ffos Las race results 23 june
The action began with the South Wales Medical Event Cover Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over six furlongs at 2:30pm. The contest attracted a competitive field, but it was Punchbowl Flyer (IRE) who emerged on top under a determined ride from Alexandra Egan.
Travelling strongly throughout the race, Punchbowl Flyer was always well positioned and showed a sharp turn of foot when asked for maximum effort in the closing stages. The gelding responded generously to Egan’s encouragement and pulled clear late on to secure a deserved success. The victory rewarded connections for their patience and highlighted the horse’s effectiveness over the sprint distance.
The second race on the programme, the Connolly’s Red Mills “Confined” Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over five furlongs, was restricted to horses that had not registered a victory during the 2026 season. It proved an ideal opportunity for Isle of Lismore (IRE) to break through.
Ridden by the in-form Billy Loughnane, Isle of Lismore displayed plenty of early speed and settled nicely among the leading group. As the race developed, Loughnane timed his challenge perfectly, asking his mount to quicken inside the final furlong. The response was immediate as Isle of Lismore surged clear to claim a well-earned victory and end a frustrating wait for success.
The afternoon’s maiden contest came at 3:30pm with the Vibe Recruit Maiden Stakes (Class 4) over seven furlongs and 87 yards. Such races often provide clues for the future, and English Time (IRE) produced a performance suggesting there could be brighter days ahead.
Partnered by Lewis Edmunds, the youngster travelled smoothly throughout the race and looked comfortable from an early stage. After settling in midfield, English Time made steady progress entering the home straight before accelerating impressively when asked. The horse quickly established a winning advantage and crossed the line with authority, securing a first career success and providing connections with plenty of encouragement for the remainder of the season.
The fourth race, the Ffos Las Racecourse Charity Skydive for Ty Hafan Handicap Stakes (Class 6) over a mile and seven yards, delivered one of the most popular results of the day as Betty Lemon battled gamely to victory under Rose Dawes.
In a race where several runners appeared to have chances entering the straight, Betty Lemon demonstrated admirable determination. Dawes kept her mount balanced and focused before launching a decisive challenge in the closing furlong. The pair gradually wore down their rivals and pulled away close home, earning a victory that was warmly received by those in attendance.
Attention then turned to the Morgan Environmental Classified Stakes (Class 6) over one mile, two furlongs and seven yards at 4:35pm. French-bred runner Pureis King (FR) proved too strong for the opposition under jockey Callum Hutchinson.
The race was run at a steady pace initially, but Pureis King travelled comfortably throughout and appeared full of running turning for home. Hutchinson delayed his challenge until the perfect moment before asking his mount to stretch. The response was immediate, with Pureis King moving powerfully to the front and maintaining the advantage all the way to the line. It was a polished display that suggested the horse remains capable of further progress.
The meeting concluded with the Zambezi Magic Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over one mile, two furlongs and seven yards at 5:10pm. Once again, Billy Loughnane found himself in the winner’s enclosure after guiding Solanna to an impressive success.
Solanna settled beautifully throughout the contest and was always travelling strongly behind the leaders. Loughnane demonstrated excellent patience, waiting until the final stages before producing his challenge. When the signal came, Solanna quickened decisively and soon established a clear lead. The horse stayed on strongly through the closing yards to provide Loughnane with a notable double on the card.
The jockey’s two victories were among the standout achievements of the afternoon and further underlined his growing reputation as one of the most reliable riders currently competing on the British racing circuit.
Overall, Ffos Las delivered a highly enjoyable day of racing, featuring competitive finishes, promising young horses and several determined performances from established runners. Punchbowl Flyer’s opening success set the tone for the afternoon, while English Time’s maiden victory and Solanna’s commanding finale ensured the meeting concluded on a high note.
With six different races showcasing a variety of talents and racing styles, the 23 June card provided another reminder of the depth and competitiveness that continue to characterise racing at Ffos Las. Connections of the day’s winners will now look ahead with confidence as the summer season gathers momentum, while racegoers left having witnessed a series of performances worthy of celebration.
