Wednesday’s scheduled racing at Kempton Park, Salisbury, Worcester and Ffos Las has been abandoned after officials confirmed that extreme temperatures were expected to create unsafe conditions for participants.
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) announced the decision following the Met Office issuing a red extreme heat warning covering parts of the Midlands, southern England and Wales from 9am on Wednesday, 24 June until 9pm on Thursday, 25 June.
Racing Abandoned Due to Heat Warning
The affected venues include three racecourses located within the red warning area, while Ffos Las, although just outside the zone, was also impacted due to travel concerns through areas facing the highest level of heat alert.
The decision means the Kempton Park, Salisbury, Worcester and Ffos Las fixtures will not go ahead as planned.
The BHA’s hot weather policy requires fixtures to be abandoned when racecourses fall inside a red warning zone. The policy also prevents horses from being transported from or through areas affected by such warnings.
Officials confirmed that the decision was made alongside the racecourses involved, with the welfare of horses, jockeys, trainers and support staff remaining the priority.
The BHA said the extreme conditions required a cautious approach, particularly with the health and safety of equine athletes and racing professionals in mind.
The organisation will continue discussions with racecourses scheduled to stage fixtures in amber warning areas during the week. Any additional measures will be reviewed according to local forecasts and environmental conditions.
The decision to abandon Wednesday’s meetings comes as racing authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely.
Kempton Park, Salisbury, Worcester and Ffos Las fixtures have been abandoned due to extreme heat concerns.
Trainers have also been reminded that horses should not be moved through regions where red heat warnings are active, with further updates expected if conditions require additional action.
No race results are available for the affected meetings as the fixtures were cancelled before racing began.
