The British Champion Oisin Murphy
The British Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy has yet again marked his victory upon his arrival in India for the second time in the realm of horse racing by winning The HPSL Indian 2000 Guineas (Grade 1).
Making A victorious debut on Pesi Shroff trained 6-year-old chestnut mare CHAMONIX on 17th December 2023, Oisin Murphy began his astonishing journey of horse racing in India. However, this ride was just a warm-up to get to know the track, before heading towards one of the most prestigious races among the Indian Classic series, The Trilegal Indian 1000 Guineas (Grade I).
The race started off with Pesi Shroff-trained DEMOCRACY setting the pace, with bay filly Jendayi running behind in second position. However, in the final 100 meters, Jendayi swiftly ran past the frontrunner, spectacularly charging towards the finishing line under the guidance of one of the
most renowned jockeys of the world Oisin Murphy, marking an unforgettable victory for him in horse racing in India.
In an interview with Oisin Murphy during his first visit to India to participate in the classic race, he mentioned his excitement about working with trainer Pesi Shroff. He also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to ride in India, which was offered by owners Vijay Shrike and K. N. Dhunjibhoy, and appreciated the warm welcome he received from all the associates.
On 22nd December 2024, the English Champion jockey, Oisin Murphy, once again proved his unbeatable skills to the spectators by riding on Santissimo, trained by Pesi Shroff, and clinching victory in another most prestigious classic race of India, The HPSL Indian 2000 Guineas (Grade 1). This time the jockey came back much stronger than before with a strategic planning to run first across the finish line.
Both the jockey and his rider Satissimo seemed to understand the pace of the race which began with chestnut colt Shambala, ridden by Trevor Patel, taking the lead. Oisin Murphy strategically trailed behind the frontrunner almost by six lengths till the home stretch before bringing out the full potential of Santissimo. As soon as Murphy reached the final 400-meter mark, he unleashed bay colt to his highest speed, striding past Shambala and making it to the finish line with a remarkable win by 3 lengths.
Murphy’s Perceptual acuity and Santissimo’s exceptional prowess allowed the bay colt to win the first leg of the Indian Triple Crown.
