Perth Race Results 7 June

The card opened with the Scone Palace Jousting Tournament Novices’ Hurdle Race, run over two miles and four furlongs. The contest saw Flying Ace (IRE) justify strong expectations with an impressive victory under champion jockey Sean Bowen. Travelling comfortably throughout, Flying Ace was always in contention and moved smoothly into the lead approaching the final hurdle. The gelding responded well to Bowen’s encouragement and stayed on strongly in the closing stages to secure a convincing success. The performance suggested there could be further progress to come from the novice hurdler as connections look ahead to future targets.

The second race, the Sun Racing The Home of Racing Novices’ Limited Handicap Hurdle, provided another competitive spectacle. Betteryouthanme (IRE), partnered by Toby Wynne, delivered a polished performance to come out on top. Racing prominently from an early stage, the winner showed plenty of determination when challenged after the final flight. Wynne kept his mount focused and the pair maintained a strong gallop all the way to the line. The victory marked a rewarding success for connections and highlighted the horse’s consistency in recent outings.

Attention then turned to the Scone Palace International Horse Trials Handicap Hurdle, where Scots Poet produced an excellent display under Conor O’Farrell. The race was fiercely contested, with several runners holding chances turning for home. However, Scots Poet travelled notably well throughout and found extra momentum when it mattered most. O’Farrell timed his challenge perfectly, sending the gelding into the lead after the last hurdle before keeping on strongly to seal victory. The success was warmly received and represented another notable achievement for the horse’s connections.

The action continued with the Perth Silver Cup Handicap Steeple Chase, one of the most anticipated races on the supporting programme. Newtown Rambler (IRE) emerged victorious after a determined effort under jockey Oakley Brown. The race developed into a fascinating tactical contest, with the leaders closely grouped for much of the journey. Newtown Rambler produced accurate jumping throughout and gradually asserted his authority in the closing stages. Brown delivered a confident ride, guiding the horse into a winning position before maintaining the advantage all the way to the finish.

The feature event of the afternoon, the Perth Gold Cup Handicap Steeple Chase, attracted considerable attention and did not disappoint. Riskintheground (IRE), ridden by Harry Skelton, delivered a performance worthy of the occasion to claim the valuable prize. Facing a competitive field over just more than three miles, Riskintheground settled into a comfortable rhythm and jumped fluently throughout the contest.

As the field approached the latter stages, several runners looked capable of challenging, but Skelton’s mount responded impressively when asked for maximum effort. Producing a strong finish after the final fence, Riskintheground pulled clear to secure a memorable Gold Cup triumph. The victory added another significant success to the horse’s record and provided one of the standout moments of the Perth season.

Following the excitement of the feature race, the Malcolm Group Handicap Steeple Chase offered another engaging contest. Buy Some Time (IRE), partnered by Ryan Mania, demonstrated stamina and determination to come out on top. The gelding travelled efficiently throughout the race and produced a particularly strong effort over the final stages.

Accurate jumping played a major role in the success, with Buy Some Time rarely putting a foot wrong. Mania judged the pace well and ensured his mount remained in contention before launching a decisive challenge late on. The victory was a deserved reward for a horse that showed admirable resilience throughout the contest.

The meeting concluded with the IM Group Handicap Hurdle, run over an extended three-mile trip. Our Girl Sal (IRE) completed a memorable afternoon for jockey Ryan Mania by securing victory in the final race of the day. The mare displayed plenty of stamina as she tackled the demanding distance and remained competitive throughout. Approaching the final hurdle, she moved smoothly into a challenging position before finding additional reserves of energy on the run-in. Mania’s patient ride paid dividends as Our Girl Sal crossed the line in front, bringing the curtain down on a successful day of racing at Perth.

Overall, the June 7 meeting showcased the competitive spirit and quality that have become hallmarks of racing at Perth Racecourse. From Flying Ace’s polished novice hurdle success to Riskintheground’s impressive Perth Gold Cup triumph, racegoers were treated to a series of strong performances. Multiple jockeys enjoyed productive afternoons, with Sean Bowen, Harry Skelton and Ryan Mania all making their presence felt on the winners’ board.

As the summer jumping season continues, several of the day’s winners look capable of building on their achievements, while Riskintheground’s feature-race victory will undoubtedly remain one of the standout performances from Perth’s flagship meeting of the year.
