Opening the afternoon’s action, the Apprentice Handicap Stakes (Class 5) will be run at 2:15pm. The contest will carry prize money of £8,000, will cover a distance of 5f 182y and will be restricted to horses aged four years and older. A field of nine runners is expected, including Surprised, Harry’s Halo, Stirrup Cup, Pop Star, Baba Reza, Rich Rhythm and Macedonian. The race will provide apprentice riders with an early opportunity to make their mark on the programme.

Juvenile talent will then come under the spotlight when the Novice Stakes (Class 2) takes place at 2:45pm. Worth £40,000, the race will be the richest event on the card and will be contested over 5f 182y by two-year-olds. Although only four runners are set to line up, Caeruleus, Capilano, Deputy Vice and Light of Dawn will represent a group of youngsters looking to establish their credentials at an early stage of the season.

Attention will subsequently turn to the fillies’ division as the Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Class 4) is scheduled for 3:15pm. Run over 7f 187y and carrying prize money of £10,000, the contest will be open to horses aged three years and older. Seven runners are expected, with Fair Isle Sioux, Pearl, Stolen Kisses, Always Blue, Foxy Night and Marhayb among those entered.

Sprint specialists among the three-year-olds will next have their opportunity in the Handicap Stakes (Class 6) at 3:45pm. The £6,500 contest will be run over 5f 182y and is expected to attract 11 runners. Mereside Spark, Auspicious, Realistic Dream, Truly Special, Battenburg Belle and Charcon feature among the likely participants in what should be a competitive sprint handicap.

The middle portion of the programme will feature the Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (Class 5), due off at 4:18pm. Open to horses aged three years and older, the race will offer £8,000 in prize money and will be run over 7f 187y. Nine runners are expected, including Epidavros, We’ve Got This, Blufferonthebus, Ravishing Beauty, Rosemary May and Emery Down.

One of the most competitive fields of the day will assemble for the Handicap Stakes (Class 5) at 4:53pm. The race will be worth £8,000 and will be contested over 1m 1f 14y for horses aged four years and older. A maximum field of 14 runners is anticipated, with Amancio, Style of Life, Cosmos Raj, Sound Janet, King of Fury and Redarna among those expected to contest the extended-mile event.

Bringing the meeting to a close, the concluding Handicap Stakes (Class 6) will be staged at 5:28pm. The race will offer £6,500 in prize money, will be run over 6f 209y and will be restricted to horses aged four years and older. Ten runners are expected, including Rwenearlytheredad, Pallas Lord, Orbital Chime, Ideal Guest, Sir David and Dolly’s Delight.

With a valuable juvenile contest, competitive handicaps and opportunities for developing performers across multiple divisions, the Carlisle fixture will provide a well-balanced programme and another important chapter in the northern Flat racing calendar.

The Carlisle Race Cards 8 June will feature seven races worth more than £87,000, highlighted by a £40,000 novice event for two-year-olds and competitive handicaps spanning sprint and middle-distance trips.
