A late surge of quality has further strengthened anticipation around next week’s bloodstock showcase at Oaklands, with several well-related youngsters added to an already deep and varied catalogue that continues to draw attention from across the breeding and racing landscape.
Great Southern Weanling Sale 2026 catalogue
The update comes ahead of next week’s edition of the Great Southern Weanling Sale, where pedigrees tied to elite-level performers are set to attract strong interest from prospective buyers and industry observers alike.
Progeny and siblings connected to top-class performers headline the latest supplementary entries, adding further depth to a catalogue that now stands at 438 lots. Among the most eye-catching additions is a Tassort half-brother to the Group 1-placed Military Expert, a Royal Meeting colt out of the Group 1 winner Risque, and a Toronado filly closely related to stakes performer Modown.
These supplementary lots will be offered through leading nurseries including Supreme Thoroughbreds, Stonehouse, Collingrove, Shadow Hill and Phoenix Broodmare Farm, reinforcing the depth of participation from established breeding operations.
Held at Oaklands in Melbourne, the expanded catalogue will be presented across two days, Thursday June 11 and Friday June 12, with inspections commencing from 8.30am on Monday June 8. The opening session begins at 1pm on Thursday with the first 160 lots, while Friday’s programme will feature the remainder of the catalogue along with the newly added supplementaries from 10am.
Industry attention is already building around the depth of quality assembled, with Inglis Victorian Bloodstock Manager James Price highlighting both the breadth and class of the offering. He pointed to an especially strong draft from Burnewang North, featuring weanlings by leading stallions such as Anamoe, Home Affairs, Shinzo, Toronado, Ole Kirk, Street Boss and Harry Angel.
According to Price, the consistency of quality across the catalogue reflects the effort invested by vendors and their teams, with several standout pedigrees adding further intrigue to the auction lineup. He also emphasised the importance of buyers attending inspections to fully appreciate the standard of youngstock on offer.
Among the notable highlights are an Anamoe half-sister to Fireball Miss, a half-brother to Extragalactic, and an undefeated stakes-winning juvenile sibling to Aristopolos. Another talking point is a filly by Anamoe out of La Dragontea, combining international black-type influence with strong female family depth.
The catalogue itself is underpinned by representation from 105 stallions, including established names such as Savabeel, So You Think, Wootton Bassett, Too Darn Hot, Street Boss and Starspangledbanner, alongside a growing wave of first-season sires including Chaldean, Gold Trip, King Colorado, Mo’unga, Native Trail and Shinzo.
A broad base of 48 vendors ensures strong diversity across the offering, with respected nurseries such as Gilgai, Widden, Rosemont, Blue Gum, Three Bridges, Cornerstone, Rushton Park, Armidale Stud, Bell River and others contributing well-grown and carefully prepared drafts.
Recent history continues to reinforce the sale’s growing reputation as a proven source of racetrack talent. Among its success stories is Streisand, purchased for a modest figure before rising to Group 1 glory in the Blue Diamond and finishing runner-up in the Golden Slipper, while Well Written has remained unbeaten through six starts, including Group 1 success and major international success.
Such performances have helped elevate confidence in the catalogue’s long-term value, with further examples like Calamari Ring, Alibaba and Lassified underlining its continued influence on stakes racing outcomes.
The sale has also become a recognised platform for pinhooking success, with several notable returns achieved across different price brackets, further highlighting the depth of demand and competition at all levels of the market.
All weanlings purchased at the Great Southern Weanling Sale are also eligible for the broader $12 million incentive structure tied to the Inglis Race Series, adding further appeal for buyers targeting future racetrack opportunities.
As inspections begin and preparations intensify, the sense around Oaklands is one of expectation, with a catalogue rich in pedigree, performance ties and international influence set to take centre stage.
