The second race, the Book The Bistro In Seasons Restaurant Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 5) over two miles, four furlongs and 151 yards, saw Ceolwulf emerge victorious under James Bowen. The gelding was always positioned prominently and responded well when challenged turning for home. Bowen judged the pace perfectly and guided his mount to a well-deserved success after a sustained battle in the straight.
Attention then turned to the only bumper on the programme, the Ladies Day Sunday 16th August Open National Hunt Flat Race (Class 5). The race provided an opportunity for future stars to make their mark and it was Lairig Mor who delivered a highly encouraging performance. Ridden by James Davies, the youngster travelled smoothly before quickening clear in the latter stages. The victory suggested there could be plenty more to come from the promising performer in the months ahead.
The feature novice hurdle of the afternoon, the Summer Fun At Southwell Racecourse National Hunt Maiden Hurdle Race (Class 4) over two miles and four furlongs, produced a memorable success for Kingofthefrontier. Conor O’Farrell kept his mount settled early before gradually increasing the pressure. The horse responded admirably and displayed both stamina and determination to secure a breakthrough maiden victory. The manner of the win hinted that bigger assignments may await later in the season.
The longest race on the card, the Makers Market Mon 27th July Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 5) over three miles and 139 yards, went the way of Larkfield Lusive (IRE) under Danny McMenamin. Endurance was the key factor in this contest and the winner proved strongest when it mattered most. After remaining within striking distance throughout, Larkfield Lusive moved into contention approaching the final hurdle and stayed on powerfully to score.
One of the most impressive displays of the afternoon came in the Enhance Your Race Day With Sponsorship Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 4) over two miles and nine yards. Squeezebox (IRE), partnered by Stan Sheppard, produced a polished performance from start to finish. Travelling comfortably and jumping fluently, the gelding moved smoothly into the lead before drawing clear in convincing fashion. The victory highlighted both the horse’s class and consistency.
The meeting concluded with the Southwell Racecourse Novices’ Limited Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 5) over two miles and four furlongs. Beorma (IRE), ridden by Harry Skelton, capped the afternoon with a commanding display. Always travelling strongly, Beorma looked the likely winner some way from home and duly delivered with an authoritative finish. The success rounded off a memorable day for connections and provided an exciting conclusion to the fixture.
