The feature event for fillies, the Class 2 Hilary Needler Trophy, produced an eye-catching winner in Crystal Queen, while Matteo announced himself as one of the most exciting two-year-olds seen at Beverley this season. Elsewhere, Sportingsilvermine, Who’s Lope, Glenfinnan, Vietnorm and Anificas Beauty all secured notable victories across the card.
The afternoon began with the £Napoleons Casino Hull Handicap Stakes over one mile, one furlong and 207 yards. The Class 4 contest went the way of Sportingsilvermine (IRE), ridden with confidence by Oisin Orr. The Irish-bred runner travelled strongly throughout before asserting in the closing stages to land the prize. The victory rewarded connections with another valuable success and showcased the horse’s ability to handle Beverley’s unique undulating track.
Attention then turned to the prestigious Hilary Needler Trophy EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes, one of the most important juvenile races run at Beverley. Crystal Queen (IRE), partnered by Connor Beasley, produced a polished display in the five-furlong Class 2 event. Breaking smartly and showing excellent pace throughout, the filly held off her rivals to claim a significant early-season success. The performance suggested Crystal Queen possesses considerable potential and could now be aimed at higher-profile contests during the summer months.
The next feature was the Beverley Two Year Old Trophy EBF Conditions Stakes, another highly regarded juvenile contest. Matteo (IRE), ridden by Kevin Stott, delivered one of the standout performances of the day. Displaying speed, professionalism and determination, the youngster justified strong support from connections with a commanding success over five furlongs. The victory immediately places Matteo among the more exciting two-year-olds to emerge from the northern racing circuit this season.
Race four, the Birch Flooring Novice Stakes over one mile and four furlongs, saw Who’s Lope continue his progression. Under the guidance of P. J. McDonald, the horse settled nicely before producing a decisive challenge in the straight. The victory in the Class 3 novice contest marked an important milestone and hinted that further improvement could be forthcoming as the season develops. The fifth race on the card, the Happy Birthday Colin “Spud” Stamford Handicap, produced another notable success for Connor Beasley, who completed a double aboard Glenfinnan (IRE). The meeting concluded with the Platinum Queen Play Live After Racing Handicap over one mile and 100 yards. Anificas Beauty (IRE), partnered by Cian Horgan, ended the afternoon in style. Producing a well-timed challenge, the mare surged into contention inside the final furlong before asserting close home. The Class 6 victory provided a fitting finale to an enjoyable day of racing and gave connections plenty to celebrate.
