The countdown has begun at Karaka, where anticipation is building around next month’s NZB National Weanling Sale, with a 140-lot catalogue that brings together some of the most closely watched juvenile thoroughbreds of the season. The draft once again reflects the depth of New Zealand breeding, with pedigrees that continue to attract serious attention from across the industry.

This year’s offering carries significant quality throughout, with 21 siblings to stakes performers and 22 youngsters out of stakes-producing mares, reinforcing the strength of bloodlines assembled for the Sir Patrick Hogan auditorium on Thursday, 25 June.
Among the early standouts is Lot 4, a filly by Hello Youmzain offered by Haunui Farm, out of a half-sister to Needle and Thread and Savile Row, both by Makfi. Hallmark Stud also brings forward a compelling filly in Lot 17, another by Hello Youmzain, out of Posh Bec, the dam of Group One winner Bonny Lass, adding further depth to a strong sire representation.
Per Incanto features prominently through Lot 37, a colt out of So Julia, while Highline Thoroughbreds also presents Lot 38, a bay colt by Almanzor out of Soltina, making him a half-brother to stakes performer Sakura Girl.
Cambridge Stud adds further firepower with Lot 44, a Farnan colt from Tavispirit, while Lot 46 draws attention as a Paddington filly from Tegwin, a half-sister to Group One performer Let’s Karaka Deel. Hallmark Stud continues its strong draft with Lot 51, a Satono Aladdin filly out of Group Three winner Ticket to Ride.
Waikato Stud and Seaton Park also feature prominently, with Lot 88, a Per Incanto colt from Christmas Day, and Lot 95, a Super Seth colt out of Group performer Date Night, both adding commercial appeal. Cambridge Stud rounds out key highlights with Lot 137, a Savabeel colt from Almanzor mare Marvelouzm.
Selling will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre from 11am (NZT) on Thursday, 25 June, with inspections scheduled through early June on-farm parades and at Karaka itself. Agents will also be available to assist prospective buyers with inspections during the build-up to the sale.
The NZB National Weanling Sale 2026 Karaka catalogue is expected to draw strong international and domestic interest as buyers assess well-bred youngsters poised to become future racing prospects.
Travel arrangements for attendees are being facilitated through the DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka, with bookings available via NZB assistance channels.Interest in this year’s Karaka weanling offering is expected to build steadily as the inspection window opens, with breeders and buyers alike given the chance to assess the quality on the ground ahead of the main sale day.
The on-farm parades scheduled for early June will provide an important opportunity for prospective purchasers to view the youngsters in a more relaxed environment, away from the intensity of the sales ring, while the additional inspections at Karaka will further assist decision-making in the lead-up to the auction. With many of the lots representing proven families and commercial sire lines, early indications suggest strong competition could emerge across several drafts, particularly for those individuals carrying updates through siblings or closely related stakes performers.
Industry participants continue to place significant emphasis on pedigree depth and physical type at this stage of the sales calendar, and this catalogue offers plenty of both, reinforcing Karaka’s standing as a key fixture in the Southern Hemisphere bloodstock programme.
As ever, vendors will be hoping that presentation and preparation during the preview period translate into confident bidding when the action begins in the Sir Patrick Hogan auditorium later in the month, where the first of the 140 lots will step into the spotlight on June 25.
