The British European Breeders’ Fund has published its annual industry report outlining its contributions and activity across the 2025 Flat season and the 2025/2026 National Hunt campaign, reaffirming its long-standing role in supporting prize money and race development in Britain.
For more than four decades, the organisation has remained one of the central financial contributors to British racing, with its backing continuing at record levels. The Westow Stakes has developed a notable reputation for producing future stallions. Graduates from the contest currently standing at stud include ARDAD of Overbury Stud, SOLDIER’S CALL of Mickley Stud — one of the leading sires of two-year-olds in Britain and Ireland — and BIG EVS, whose first foals arrived this year.
Similarly, the Ripon Champion 2yo Trophy has also produced several influential stallions over the years. SHOULDVEBEENARRING, SUPPLICANT and MAYSON all emerged from the race, while perhaps its most distinguished graduate remains INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, who later became one of the most influential stallions of the modern era and the sire of MAYSON, INNS OF COURT and KINGMAN.

“Its contributions directly from stallion studs to prize money are now more vital than ever.
“Ninety-three stallions from 32 studs across Britain have ensured that this year’s funding from the BEBF has remained at the £2 million mark for the fourth year in a row. A fund which was started to aid prize money in two-year-old maidens now plays its part across a range of developmental races which help to ensure that British racing remains among the best in the world.”
