Newmarket Racecourse will welcome another full afternoon of flat racing on Friday, 15 May, as the historic Suffolk venue stages an eight-race programme featuring juvenile contests, handicaps and middle-distance events across the Rowley Mile course. With races scheduled from early afternoon through to the evening, the fixture will bring together developing youngsters, experienced older runners and competitive handicap fields in a balanced Friday card.

Opening the afternoon schedule, the EBF Novice Stakes (Class 4) (GBB Race) will get underway at 1:22 pm over six furlongs for two-year-olds. The £11,000 contest has attracted six runners including Al Hudaiba, Imperial Nation, Jiro, Lion O, Mrair and Rocket Boots. The juvenile event will offer an early opportunity for several newcomers to make their first appearance at one of Britain’s leading flat racing venues, while the straight six furlongs should provide a fair examination for inexperienced runners beginning their careers.

Shortly afterwards, the Novice Stakes (Class 4) (GBB Race) will take centre stage at 1:57 pm over one mile for three-year-olds. Carrying prize money of £10,000, the race is expected to feature 10 runners including Bayaann, Quartermaster, Tales of Wisdom, Bemersyde, Cuff It, I Got Rhythm and King Cherry. The contest is likely to provide an informative test for lightly raced runners attempting to establish themselves over middle distances during the early part of the season.

Attention will then turn towards the staying division when the Handicap Stakes (Class 3) (GBBPLUS Race) is scheduled for 2:32 pm over one mile and four furlongs. With £18,000 on offer for runners aged four and above, the race has assembled a competitive field featuring Master Vintner, Pride of Donegal, Topteam, Asgard’s Captain, Ernst Blofeld, Arqoob and Marnier. The extended trip is expected to place a strong emphasis on stamina and race positioning across the demanding Rowley Mile track.

One of the afternoon’s standout juvenile contests will arrive at 3:07 pm with the EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Class 2) (EBF Restricted Race Qualifier) (GBB Race). The six-furlong event carries prize money of £30,000 and has attracted a sizeable field of 14 runners. Mr Macartney, O’Gorman, Agitator, Ballisty, Duidin, Fly Test and Mirzimaan are among the expected participants in what could become one of the more informative two-year-old races of the meeting.

Moving into the later portion of the programme, the Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (Class 5) will be contested at 3:42 pm over one mile with £10,000 available in prize money. The race for fillies and mares aged three years and above has drawn 13 runners including Tardaff, Dream Illusion, Crazee Icon, Borderline Madness, India Gold and Bearin Up. The competitive field size should ensure a closely run handicap through the Newmarket straight.

Experienced campaigners will return to the Rowley Mile at 4:18 pm for the Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over one mile and two furlongs. Worth £10,000, the contest for runners aged four years and above includes A Major Payne, Sir Edward Lear, Caledonian, Beach Point, Caph Star and Salaria among the entries. The race is expected to provide another evenly matched handicap featuring several runners capable of improving over the longer trip.

Further depth will be added to the card at 4:53 pm with the Racehorse Aftercare Handicap Stakes (Class 4) over seven furlongs for three-year-olds. The £14,000 contest has attracted six declared runners including We’re Goosers, Just A Girl, Gizmo, Wield, Deluded and Magic Box. Despite the smaller field size, the race could develop into a tactical affair around the demanding straight course.

Bringing the fixture to its conclusion, the Horse Comes First Handicap Stakes (Class 5) will begin at 5:25 pm over six furlongs for three-year-olds. The closing race carries prize money of £10,000 and has assembled 10 runners including Angels’ Share, Ecclefechan, Akabusi, Victor Cee, Logi Bear, Nebulon and Quantum Power. The concluding sprint handicap is expected to provide a competitive finish to a varied afternoon of flat racing at Newmarket.

The Friday fixture at Newmarket will feature eight races ranging from juvenile novice contests to competitive handicaps, with strong field sizes and varied distances across the afternoon programme in the Newmarket Race Cards 15 May schedule.
