By | 08 May 2026 | Mumbai

Set against the backdrop of one of Britain’s leading flat racing venues, Ascot Racecourse will stage a competitive seven-race programme on Friday, 8 May, with the fixture set to feature a blend of valuable handicaps, juvenile contests, maiden company, and apprentice racing across the afternoon schedule. More than £206,000 in total prize money will be distributed during the meeting, while race distances will range from five furlongs through to an extended staying test over one mile, seven furlongs and 209 yards.

The Friday card will bring together developing sprinters, progressive middle-distance performers, and lightly raced juveniles at an important stage of the flat racing season. Several contests on the programme carry Class 2 status, adding further depth and quality to the fixture, while Ascot’s demanding straight course and uphill finish are expected to provide a thorough examination across every division represented on the card.

Opening the afternoon’s programme in competitive fashion, the 1:50pm Class 2 Handicap Stakes will be contested over seven furlongs for prize money of £45,000 with 10 runners expected to line up. The straight-course event is likely to attract considerable interest as several progressive handicap performers continue their early-season campaigns. Colori Forever, May Angel, Synners Kid, Angel of Anfield, Albaydaa, and Queen Tamara are among the notable entries expected to feature in the field.

Providing an informative early-season examination for juvenile runners, the 2:20pm Class 2 Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes will take place over five furlongs with £30,000 on offer. The EBF Restricted Race Qualifier and GBB contest is set to feature 13 runners and will bring together several lightly raced and debuting fillies at an important stage of the spring campaign. Big Hitter, Resemblance, Wondervision, Beautiful Rainbow, Bint Archange, and Half A Hoof are among the expected participants.

Adding further depth to the middle-distance division, the 2:55pm Class 2 Maiden Fillies’ Stakes will be run over one mile, one furlong and 212 yards for a purse of £25,000. Eight runners are expected for the GBB race, including Antiquarian, Bintknight, Cool Girl, Gone By, Light of Paris, and Pierpoint. The extended distance is likely to suit fillies with stamina-oriented pedigrees, while the race itself may prove an important educational step for inexperienced runners progressing toward stronger company later in the campaign.

Continuing the afternoon with another competitive sprint assignment, the 3:25pm Class 3 Handicap Stakes is scheduled over six furlongs with total prize money of £30,000 and a field of 11 runners. Elements of Fire, Toyotomi, Brosay, Hucklesbrook, Bolo Neighs, and Mandurah are among the runners set to contest the sprint event. The straight six furlongs at Ascot consistently produces strongly run races, and the balance between tactical speed and finishing strength is expected to play a significant role in the outcome.

Bringing together the largest field of the meeting, the 4:00pm Class 4 Handicap Stakes over six furlongs will carry prize money of £25,650 and is expected to feature 20 runners. Secret Santa, Sizzling Seixas, Star of Albion, Blue Orbit, Rogue Temptation, and Moscow Power are among those anticipated for the competitive handicap. Large-field sprint contests at Ascot frequently generate closely fought finishes, particularly on the straight course where positioning and sustained pace become increasingly important during the closing stages.

Maintaining the card’s strong handicap programme during the latter stages of the meeting, the 4:35pm Class 4 Style Handicap Stakes will be staged over one mile with prize money of £25,650. Spirit of Saxony, Outback Heat, Tiger Power, Blue Courvoisier, King’s Trust, and Exotic Baby are among the expected runners in the 12-runner field. The mile distance should provide a suitable challenge for runners capable of combining tactical speed with stamina, while Ascot’s uphill finish is expected to place additional emphasis on endurance in the final furlong.

Drawing the curtain on the afternoon fixture, the 5:10pm Class 4 Apprentice Handicap Stakes will be contested over one mile, seven furlongs and 209 yards for a total purse of £25,650. Twelve runners are due to line up for the staying event, including Aajej, Galactic Charm, Francesco Baracca, Gemmari, Naval Tribute, and Circuit Breaker. The extended distance will provide a thorough stamina examination for the field while also offering apprentice riders an important opportunity in competitive handicap company.
