A change in surface rarely comes as welcome news to every stable, but on this occasion, the late switch at Gulfstream Park worked neatly in favour of Thank You Amy and her connections on Friday.

Heavy local showers had forced officials to transfer the turf races to the Tapeta track, reshaping the complexion of the afternoon’s feature — a five-furlong optional claiming allowance for three-year-old fillies. For owner-breeder-trainer Ron Potts, it was a development he accepted without hesitation.

His filly, making her seasonal return, had yet to race on turf but carried solid experience on synthetic surfaces. That familiarity proved decisive. Breaking alertly from the gates, Thank You Amy quickly took command under Miguel Vasquez and never truly looked in danger thereafter.

Setting a strong early pace, she was briefly challenged approaching the bend but responded with authority in the straight, pulling clear to score by a comfortable 1½ lengths. The stopwatch confirmed the merit of the effort, with the five furlongs covered in a brisk 56.96 seconds.

Bramble Blast chased her home in second, finishing 1¾ lengths ahead of Glancing My Way, while the well-fancied Ifyousaidso failed to land a blow and trailed in fourth.

For Potts, the result was less a surprise and more a reflection of careful preparation. The filly had been ready to run for some time, having missed an earlier opportunity to get into a race, and that fitness was evident in her sharp break and sustained gallop.

A daughter of Street Boss, Thank You Amy now adds this success to a promising record that already included two wins from five starts last season, all achieved on Tapeta tracks at Woodbine and Presque Isle Downs.

The afternoon, however, belonged as much to Vasquez as to any horse. The jockey enjoyed a productive spell in the saddle, bringing home four winners across the card. Alongside the feature, he guided Tic Tic Tic Boom, Five Eyes Onmichel, and Iliana to victory, underlining both his consistency and confidence throughout the day.

Looking ahead, attention shifts to Saturday’s programme, where several notable runners are set to feature. Among them are Mattingly and Extendo from the yard of Joe Orseno, while Asher’s Edge, trained by David Fawkes, adds further depth to a competitive sprint contest. Elsewhere, No Evidence from the stable of Miguel Clement is due to make his seasonal reappearance.

If Friday’s racing offered any indication, adaptability to conditions may once again prove the defining factor.
