The CALCUTTA RACES – Summer Meeting, Third Day got underway with Race No. 1, The Leonardo Handicap, a Class V contest for horses rated 1–26 over 1200 metres, run at 02:30 PM on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. Producing a determined finishing effort, A Wink Annda Smile (J: Md Azharuddin) delivered a confident victory for trainer Rutherford Alford, racing in the colours of Ms Cherie Sports Pvt. Ltd and setting the tone for the afternoon’s action at Kolkata Racecourse.
Early proceedings in the Kolkata race result 11 March card saw a competitive tempo as the field settled into stride over the sprint trip. A Wink Annda Smile travelled comfortably through the early stages before jockey Md Azharuddin angled the gelding into a striking position approaching the final furlong. Responding gamely when asked for an effort, the Alford-trained runner lengthened stride in the closing stages to assert authority and claim the opening race of the day.
Lahina finished second, with Vishal N Bunde in the saddle for trainer Sabeel Shariff, staying on to secure the runner-up position. Schwarzenegger, partnered by Suraj Narredu and trained by Vikash Jaiswal, completed the placings in third after keeping on steadily through the final stages.
With the curtain-raiser decided, attention now shifts to the next contest on the card — The Allodium Handicap, scheduled for 03:00 PM, as the Kolkata Summer Meeting continues to build momentum.
