Hereford’s Weekend Showcase: Seven-Race National Hunt Card Awaits Saturday Audience

Saturday’s National Hunt meeting at Hereford Racecourse will present a structured seven-race programme on 7 March, with the afternoon card featuring hurdle races, steeplechases and a concluding mares’ National Hunt Flat contest. The fixture will begin at 1:42 PM and will continue through the early evening, offering contests across several distances and racing classes.

The Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 5) will open the programme at 1:42 PM. Run over 3 miles 2 furlongs and 86 yards, the race will carry prize money of £7,000 and will feature seven runners. Among those expected to line up are Welcheston Warrier, Braganza Bay, Black Occ and Bredon Hill Dart, with the extended distance placing early emphasis on stamina.

A larger field will assemble for the Maiden Hurdle Race (Class 4) (GBB Race) at 2:12 PM, staged over 2 miles 4 furlongs and 62 yards with £10,000 in prize money. The race has attracted 14 runners, including Air Apparent, Below The Belt, Big Bert and Chasing Glance, all set to contest the intermediate-distance event.

Attention will then shift to the Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 3) (GBB Race) scheduled for 2:52 PM. The race will be run over 2 miles and 46 yards and will offer £12,800 in prize money. Although the field will consist of four runners, Western General, Largy Belter, Uncle Phil and Homme d’Un Soir will compete in what will be the shortest chase of the afternoon.

Midway through the programme, the Novices’ Limited Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 5) will take place at 3:25 PM over 2 miles 4 furlongs and 62 yards for £7,000 in prize money. Eleven runners are expected to compete, with Hey Flint, By The Grace, L’Empire Vert and Neeps And Tatties among the declared participants.

Later on the card, the Novices’ Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 4) (GBB Race) will be staged at 4:02 PM across 3 miles 1 furlong and 106 yards, offering £10,000 in prize money. Six runners are set to line up, including Bective Abbey, Golan Loop, Mountain Mike and Mombasa, with the staying trip likely to test both jumping accuracy and endurance.

The penultimate race will be the Mares’ Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 5) at 4:37 PM, run over 2 miles and 171 yards with £7,000 in prize money. Eight runners are expected to take part, including Miracles Do Happen, Land Girl’s Luck, Gower Spirit and Granny Hawkins.

Racing will conclude at 5:12 PM with the Mares’ Open Maiden National Hunt Flat Race (Class 5) (GBB Race) over 2 miles and 171 yards, offering £4,500 in prize money. The closing contest has attracted 14 runners, with Briery Rose, Div Ine Glance, Eskylady and Faith’s Song among the mares scheduled to line up.
