Royal Calcutta Turf Club to Stage Competitive Six-Race Friday Card

Indian racing will continue its weekly calendar on Friday, 6 March, when the Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) will conduct a six-race afternoon meeting featuring runners across Class V through Class II divisions. Distances will range from 1100 metres to 2000 metres, presenting a balanced programme that blends sprint contests with middle-distance and staying events at the historic course in Kolkata.

The meeting will commence at 2:30 PM and will unfold across clearly framed rating bands, bringing together a mix of developing runners and established campaigners. As the programme progresses, the card will move from shorter sprint races to longer contests that will place greater emphasis on stamina and controlled race management.

The afternoon programme will commence with The Royal Mantle Handicap, scheduled for 2:30 PM over 1600 metres for Class V horses rated 1–26 with total prize money of Rs.3,00,000. Carnation, partnered by Suraj Narredu, will be among the runners lining up for the opening mile contest, alongside Lochs And Glens with Nikhil Naidu and Simran’s Attitude under Varun. Born To Be Spoilt, Sensations and Mogambo will complete the field. Over this distance, runners will need to settle early before building momentum in the latter stages of the race.

The sprint division will come into focus with The Adiella Handicap, which will be run at 3:00 PM over 1100 metres for Class V horses rated 1–26 carrying prize money of Rs.3,00,000. Cashaban with Vishal N Bunde will feature in the line-up along with Lineupandcollect guided by Gaurav Singh and Kindred Spirit ridden by Shezad Khan. Tesha, Blazing Black and Moneycatcher will also contest the race, creating a compact field where early acceleration and effective gate positioning will likely prove decisive.

The third race will present The Obligado Handicap, a 3:30 PM contest over 1200 metres for Class IV runners rated 21–46 with a purse of Rs.4,00,000. Dr Doom with R Vaibhav, Contessina partnered by Darshan N and Positivity ridden by Nikhil Naidu will headline the entries. Felix, Priceless Prince and Honey Cake will also join the field. The six-furlong trip will test runners capable of maintaining a consistent pace before producing a sustained effort in the straight.

Midway through the card, The Averoff Cup will offer a mile contest scheduled for 4:00 PM over 1600 metres for Class IV horses rated 21–46 with total prize money of Rs.4,00,000. Oh My Darling with Varun, Star Power ridden by Suraj Narredu and Banduk Wali under Vinod Shinde will feature prominently among the participants. Wonderful, Lucky Nine and Global Fashion will complete the line-up, forming a balanced field for the middle-distance event.

The penultimate contest will step up the class level with The Echoes of Light Handicap, run at 4:30 PM over 1200 metres for Class II horses rated 61–86 offering Rs.5,50,000 in prize money. Knotty Blush partnered by M. S. Deora will be among the runners alongside Shine with Suraj Narredu and Oishika ridden by Abhishek Mhatre. Aspira, Merlet and Casha will also take part in the race, producing a competitive sprint field within the higher rating bracket.

The programme will conclude with the staying contest, The Obelensky Handicap, scheduled for 5:00 PM over 2000 metres for Class III horses rated 41–66 with prize money of Rs.5,00,000. Duesenberg with Imran Chisty, Vivaldi partnered by Nikhil Naidu and Magnifico ridden by R Vaibhav will contest the extended trip. Black Diamond, Paulite Warrior and Queen Anula will also line up for the closing race, where stamina and measured pacing will be essential over the longer distance.

The Kolkata Race Cards 6 March programme at Royal Calcutta Turf Club will present a balanced six-race schedule combining sprint races and longer middle-distance contests across several class divisions during the Friday afternoon meeting.
