The Silks Run at Gulfstream Park promises an intriguing sprint contest on Saturday as Robert Cotran’s talented gelding Rezasrolex looks to bounce back from the narrowest of defeats and restart a remarkable winning momentum.

The five-year-old arrives at the turf dash with an already impressive résumé. A nine-race winning streak stretching across two seasons was halted only by a neck in his most recent start, yet connections remain confident the best may still lie ahead as he prepares for the Silks Run at Gulfstream Park.

Trainer Joe Orseno believes the horse continues to improve with maturity. Rezasrolex enjoyed a flawless five-race campaign in 2025 and has already made his presence felt this season with two outings over five furlongs on turf at Tampa Bay Downs.

He returned to action in January with a decisive optional claiming victory by one and a half lengths, extending a streak that had begun the previous summer at Gulfstream Park. His unbeaten sequence ended in February when he made his stakes debut in the Turf Dash, finishing a hard-fought second to the accomplished My Boy Prince.

Despite the narrow loss, the performance suggested continued progress. Rezasrolex recorded a career-best speed figure and finished just ahead of stablemate And Uwish, showing both resilience and consistency at the highest level he has yet attempted.

Rezasrolex Targets Silks Run at Gulfstream Park Return

Rezasrolex has compiled an impressive career record, winning 13 of his 18 starts. Eleven of those victories have come since Orseno claimed him for $16,000 in late 2023 after a success on the Tapeta surface.

The horse had earlier shown promise during his early outings at Belterra Park, where he broke his maiden over a mile on turf. Since joining his current stable, however, he has flourished particularly in sprint races over turf and synthetic surfaces.

Orseno believes careful management has played a key role in the gelding’s development.

“He’s been an amazing horse for us,” the trainer explained, noting that patience and spacing between races helped maintain the gelding’s enthusiasm and health. The plan last season was to run him sparingly while building toward a stronger five-year-old campaign.

Rezasrolex has often shown natural speed, yet he has also proven capable of settling just behind the leaders before delivering a decisive late run. Drawn on the rail for Saturday’s event, regular rider Edgard Zayas once again takes the reins.

Among those looking to challenge the favourite is stablemate Eamonn, the defending champion of the race. The experienced eight-year-old returns for his 48th career start and remains a familiar presence on the Gulfstream turf, where six of his eight victories have been recorded.

Eamonn recently finished fifth in a one-mile turf event at Tampa after breaking slowly but finishing strongly once clear of traffic. Orseno hopes the return to a shorter trip and a course he relishes will spark a revival. Jockey Edwin Gonzalez is set to guide him from the outside gate.

Also in the field is Souper Quest, a consistent performer who finished fourth in last year’s renewal and arrives after a determined victory over the same course and distance in early February.

Trainer Brian Lynch saddles Litigation, a progressive four-year-old who produced a dramatic late surge to win the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint earlier this season. The colt has continued to train well and represents a serious contender.

Another notable participant is millionaire sprinter Coppola, a proven performer on the Gulfstream turf with several stakes victories to his name. The seven-year-old has often relied on his natural speed to dominate races and could again play a prominent role if able to establish his rhythm early.

Additional interest comes from Classic of Course, who shortens in distance and adds blinkers in search of improvement, and Sosua Summer, a consistent runner who has shown solid form sprinting over five furlongs.

With a competitive field assembled, the Silks Run at Gulfstream Park shapes as a compelling contest of established turf sprinters and rising talent. For Rezasrolex and his connections, the race represents an opportunity not only to return to winning ways but also to confirm that his best days may still be ahead.
