The Saudi Cup weekend began with a familiar flourish as Teduom (USA) once again demonstrated her authority, surging past Tobah (GB) to capture the USD$250,000 Fillies Mile Presented by Al Hammadi Hospitals Group at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh. On an evening that traditionally sets the tone for the global spectacle of the Saudi Cup, the progressive filly confirmed she is among the meeting’s brightest stars.

There was a sense of déjà vu in the air as the race unfolded in strikingly similar fashion to the Prince Abdullah Bin Jalawi Cup earlier this season, when Teduom produced a telling late burst to deny Tobah. History repeated itself on Friday, only this time with even greater authority and composure.

Sioux Perfect (IRE) ensured the tempo was searching from the outset, carving out strong fractions through the opening exchanges of the mile contest. The early pace was relentless, stretching the field and setting up a true test of stamina. As the field straightened for home, the early exertions began to take their toll. Sioux Perfect weakened in the closing stages, allowing Tobah to stride into the lead and momentarily seize control of proceedings.

For a few strides it appeared Tobah might settle the score. But travelling smoothly just behind the leaders was Teduom, poised and balanced under Nawaf Almudiani. The rider, showing patience and confidence, angled his mount into clear running and asked her to quicken. The response was immediate and decisive.

Inside the final furlong, Teduom lengthened her stride powerfully, sweeping past Tobah and asserting her superiority. She crossed the line a length and three-quarters clear, stopping the clock at 1:40.860 to hand trainer Faisal Aladhayani another significant success at the Riyadh venue.

The victory marked yet another highlight in an exceptional campaign for the Fehaid Muteb Alsubaie-owned daughter of Street Sense. Since edging Tobah in their earlier clash, she has added the local 1000 Guineas to her résumé, and this latest triumph further strengthens her standing as one of the leading fillies of the Saudi season.

Opening races on Saudi Cup weekend often reveal emerging stars or confirm established talent, and Teduom did both. In overcoming a strong early pace and a familiar rival, she displayed tactical versatility, maturity and a devastating finishing kick — qualities that separate the good from the exceptional.

Almudiani was understandably pleased afterwards. “Teduom is a very good filly. I know her well. I was very happy with her and she had been training well,” he said, reflecting on a ride executed with calm precision.

The finish order read: Teduom (USA) first, Tobah (GB) second, and Sioux Perfect (IRE) third.

If the opening contest of Saudi Cup weekend is any indication, the meeting promises further moments of quality and drama. For now, however, the spotlight belongs firmly to Teduom — a filly in full bloom and a worthy standard-bearer for the weekend’s grand stage.
