Race No. 6 at the Mumbai meeting on Sunday, 8 February 2026, delivered a competitive finish as Merchant Of Venice rose to the occasion to win The Nawabzada Rashiduzzafar Khan Trophy, a Class IV contest for Indian horses rated 20 to 46, run over 1600 metres at 5:00 PM. In what quickly became a talking point of the Mumbai race result 8 February, the Adhirajsingh Jodha-trained colt produced a decisive performance for owners M/s Jiyaji Bhosale, Rishikesh Bhosale, Rama Seshu Eyunni, Kishore P. Rungta and Kamlesh Vrajlal Shah.
Ridden with confidence by Nirmal Jodha, Merchant Of Venice was settled into a handy position through the early stages before being brought with a smooth run turning for home. When asked to lengthen in the straight, the winner responded gamely, asserting control inside the final furlong and finding enough under pressure to seal the verdict in assured fashion.
The runner-up spot went to Marius (J: Kirtish Bhagat, T: P. Shroff), who stayed on resolutely after being produced late but was unable to reel in the leader. Treasure Gold (J: A. Omkar, T: Bezan Chenoy) completed the frame in third, keeping on steadily to finish within striking distance of the principals. Official race times were yet to be confirmed at the time of writing.
With this contest in the books, attention now turns to the S. A. Wahid Plate, scheduled for 5:30 PM, as the Mumbai Special Race Day continues to build towards its closing stages.
