Under a brightly illuminated evening sky, Abu Dhabi Turf Club hosted a competitive seven-race programme on 7 February, where a mix of Purebred Arabian and thoroughbred contests produced several notable performances across a card featuring established runners and emerging contenders.
Racing began at 16:00 and concluded under lights at 20:00, with major turf contests and Arabian features attracting strong fields, culminating in the Abu Dhabi Gold Cup finale.
The opener, the Liwa Oasis, saw HAMEEM deliver a controlled performance for jockey Patrick Dobbs and trainer Abdallah Al Hammadi, stopping the clock at 1:29.46. AR RAWAA secured second place ahead of JAP HADAD in third.
Race two, the Arabian Triple Crown Round 1, produced a solid victory for AMER BURN under Tadhg O’Shea for trainer Musabbeh Al Mheiri, winning in 1:42.68. TURQUOISE finished runner-up, while RB AL QAAHER completed the placings.
Stamina came to the fore in The Purebred Pride Handicap, where ALSHAHEEN prevailed over the longer trip in 2:27.93. Sam Hitchcott partnered the Anthony Gammell-trained runner to success ahead of MARMAR AL WATHBA in second and ENVY in third.
The Alanudd Classic followed with JOE STAR recording victory in 2:26.68 under Bernardo Pinheiro for trainer Hamad Al Marar. AJRAD ATHBAH finished second, while GHAZY secured third position.
Race five, The Royal Turf Crown, saw AABLAN produce a strong closing run for jockey Ross Coakley and trainers Simon & Ed Crisford, winning in 2:15.77. INJAZATI followed in second with PANTANI finishing third.
Feature attention then turned to the Abu Dhabi Championship, where ROYAL POWER produced a commanding performance under William Buick for trainer Charlie Appleby, stopping the clock at 2:30.00. WEST WIND BLOWS chased home in second, while SEE HECTOR finished third.
The meeting concluded with the Abu Dhabi Gold Cup, where STRAUSS secured victory in 1:33.98 under Joao Moreira for trainer Ryo Takei. DARK TROOPER claimed second, with COMANCHE BRAVE completing the podium.
