The CALCUTTA RACES Spring Meeting got into full stride on Saturday, 7th February, 2026, with Race No. 2, The Philippines Cup, a Class II contest (rated 61–86; 41–66 eligible) over 1600 metres, run at 2:30 PM. In a polished display of control and finishing power, Mindful stamped his class to score decisively under Suraj Narredu, delivering a notable Kolkata race result 7 February for trainer Deepesh Narredu and an expansive ownership group comprising Mrs B E Saldanha, Mr Teja Gollapudi, Mr Harshad Anil Kale, M/s Stride Livestock Pvt Ltd & M/s Zam Zam Enterprises, Mr Anil Saraf and Mr Deepesh Narredu.
Settled into a comfortable rhythm through the early stages, Mindful travelled sweetly as the field fanned out approaching the far turn. Suraj Narredu judged the fractions astutely, allowing his mount to build momentum without being rushed. Once asked to lengthen in the straight, Mindful responded with a sustained run, asserting his authority inside the final furlong to seal the verdict in convincing fashion.
The runner-up honours went to Aeropoli (J: P. Trevor; T: Aashay Doctor), who kept on resolutely after being placed within striking distance, while Zarak (J: Imran Chisty; T: S. Waheed) stayed on gamely to complete the trifecta. Though separated by margins rather than meters, the placings reflected a true-run mile and a clear-cut winner on the day.
With The Philippines Cup settled, attention at Kolkata Racecourse quickly turned to the next event, The Ich Dien Handicap, scheduled for 3:00 PM, as the Spring Meeting continued to build toward its marquee moments.
