Mumbai Meeting Ninth Day Wrapped Up by LORD MURPHY Success

The curtain came down in emphatic fashion with Race No. 8 – The Dr. A. H. Sayed Plate, a Class V event for Indian horses rated 1 to 26, contested over 1400 metres at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, 21st January 2026, during the Royal Western India Turf Club Mumbai Meeting 2025/26 (Ninth Day). Rounding off the Mumbai race results 21 January on a decisive note, LORD MURPHY delivered a polished performance under Ramswarup to score for trainer Shazaan Shah, racing in the colours of Mr Jaydev M Mody rep. J M Livestock Pvt Ltd, and clocking 1:24:009 to bring the day’s proceedings to a close.

Racing prominently without being pressured, LORD MURPHY travelled smoothly through the early and middle stages before being asked to lengthen in the straight. Responding willingly, the winner quickened clear inside the final furlong, asserting authority and maintaining a safe advantage to the finish under confident handling.

BALENO, partnered by S. A. Amit and trained by Karthik Ganapathy, stayed on gamely to secure second, while IT’S MY WAY, with Bhawani Singh aboard for the same stable, finished third after an honest effort behind the winner.

Earlier in the afternoon, the card had opened with ENSKY setting the tone in The A. Hoyt Plate (Race 1), the Faisal A. Abbas-trained runner scoring over 1200 metres under C. Umesh for Mrs Seema Kamlesh Shah, with Tropical Paradise and Lara filling the minor placings. Race 2, the Ravishankar Gupta Salver (Div II) over 1600 metres, saw MARIUS prevail under Kirtish Bhagat for trainer P. Shroff, racing for Mr Mehernosh H Deboo, Mrs Auzita M Deboo & Miss Ameeta Mehra, ahead of Her Charge and Renoir.

Speed and class were on display in Race 3, the Nadia Mary Homi Wadia Trophy, where QUEEN OF BEAUTIES justified strong support, Akshay Kumar guiding the Aman Altaf Hussain-trained runner to victory for Dr Cyrus S. Poonawalla & Mr Adar C. Poonawalla, with Caviar Queen and Minari chasing home. The sprinting Heritage of Grooming Trophy (Race 4) went the way of CHELSEA, who flashed home over 1000 metres under Nirmal Jodha for trainer P. S. Chouhan and J N Racing & Breeders LLP, ahead of Majestic Warrior and El Moran.

Middle-distance honours in Race 5, the Ravishankar Gupta Salver (Div I), belonged to LAND OF PLENTY, Ramswarup completing a double on the day by steering the Subhag Singh-trained runner home for M/s Vivek Lalwani, Ashok Kumar B. Gupta & partners, with Allez L’Etoile and Youreforfame in pursuit. The quality stayed high in Race 6, the Kailashpat Singhania Trophy, where OPUS DEI delivered a resolute effort under Neeraj Rawal for trainer Imtiaz A. Sait and owner Mr C. Aryama Sundaram, defeating Singer Sargent and Eagle Day.

The penultimate contest, Race 7 – The Edgar DeSylva Salver, saw MATISSE make class count over 1400 metres, S. Siddharth partnering the P. Shroff-trained runner to victory for Mr K. N. Dhunjibhoy, Mr Z. K. Dhunjibhoy & Ms Anosha Meyers, with Bishop and Amazing Ruler completing the frame.

With LORD MURPHY sealing the finale in assured style, the Mumbai card concluded on a high, bringing down the shutters on an absorbing day of racing marked by depth, variety, and competitive finishes throughout.
