Race number seven on Wednesday afternoon brought the spotlight firmly onto The Edgar DeSylva Salver, a Class III contest for Indian horses rated 40 to 66 over 1400 metres, run at 4:30 PM during the Royal Western India Turf Club’s Mumbai Meeting 2025/26. In what will feature prominently in the Mumbai race result 21 January coverage, Matisse produced a polished performance to score for jockey S. Siddharth and champion trainer P. Shroff, clocking 1:22:366. The winner races in the colours of Mr K N Dhunjibhoy, Mr Z K Dhunjibhoy & Ms Anosha Meyers rep Five Stars Shipping Co Pvt Ltd, along with Mr Vispi R Patel.
Settled smoothly through the early stages, Matisse travelled comfortably as the field sorted itself out down the backstretch. Siddharth waited patiently before asking his mount to lengthen stride approaching the final bend, and once angled out in the straight, Matisse quickened decisively. The response was immediate, the colt asserting clear control inside the final furlong to seal the verdict without being fully extended.
Stablemate Bishop gave chase to complete a P. Shroff-trained one-two, with Vivek G. aboard, finishing second after staying on resolutely in the run home. Amazing Ruler, partnered by Amyn Merchant and trained by Faisal A. Abbas, plugged on honestly to claim third, rounding out the placings in a well-contested renewal.
With the Edgar DeSylva Salver now in the books, attention at Mahalaxmi swiftly turns to the next engagement on the card — The Dr. A. H. Sayed Plate, scheduled for 5:00 PM, as the Mumbai afternoon continues to build toward its later highlights.
