Chicago Chimes Signs Off Eighth Day with Ferrari Plate Win at Mumbai

The curtain came down on Race No. 7, The Ferrari Plate, a Class V contest for Indian Horses rated 1 to 26 over 2000 metres, at 5:00 PM on Sunday, 18th January 2026, as Chicago Chimes delivered a polished performance to sign off the day’s action at Mahalaxmi. In a race that neatly rounded up the Mumbai race results 18 January, the Karthik Ganapathy-trained runner justified favouritism with authority, clocking 2:05.535 under a confident ride from David Allan for owners Mrs Anasuya Gupta & Mr Abhiroop Gupta rep. A G Bloodstock LLP, Mr Joydeep Datta Gupta & Mr Tegbir Singh Brar rep. Sarainaga Racing Pvt Ltd.

Settled into a smooth rhythm through the early and middle stages, Chicago Chimes travelled comfortably in touch with the pace before David Allan asked him to improve approaching the final bend. Responding willingly, the runner quickened smartly in the straight, asserting clear superiority inside the last 300 metres and stretching away to seal the verdict with something in hand.

Royal Champ (J: Antony Raj S., T: Imtiaz A. Sait) stayed on resolutely to claim second place, while Golden Heart (J: Yash Narredu, T: M. Narredu) kept on gamely to finish third, ensuring a competitive finish behind the decisive winner.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Mumbai meeting had opened with Challenge Accepted (J: Ramswarup, T: Adhirajsingh Jodha) striking in the Maharaja Sir Pratapsingh Gaekwad Trophy over 1200 metres for owner Mr Rajendran rep. Rapar’s Galloping Stars LLP, ahead of Eastern Monarch and Bee Magical.

Momentum continued in the Mulraj Goculdas Trophy, where Miss American Pie made full use of David Allan’s patient handling to score for trainer M. K. Jadhav and owner Mr Prashant Nagar rep. SKJ Thoroughbreds Pvt Ltd, with Market King and Son Of A Gun filling the places. Staying form came to the fore in the Jayaramdas Patel Gold Trophy over 2000 metres as Endurance (J: Yash Narredu, T: Imtiaz A. Sait) prevailed for the Estate of late Homi Mehta & family, holding off Exuma and Break Point in a strongly run contest.

Sprint honours in the P. R. Mehta Trophy went the way of Blue Jet, with Yash Narredu combining with trainer Deepesh Narredu to land the 1000-metre dash for Mr Niraj Tyagi & partners (Blazing Saddles – PF), ahead of Gunfire and Dreams Come True. The tempo remained high in the Y. M. Chaudhry Memorial Trophy, where Invictor (J: David Allan, T: Altamaash A. Ahmed) delivered for Mr Gaurav Sethi & partners, while Angelisa and Lorenzo chased home. The penultimate race, the S. M. Shah Salver, saw American Eagle dominate over 1400 metres under Ramswarup for trainer Shazaan Shah and owners M/s Ashok Ranpise & partners, with stablemate Lucio second and Bohemian Rhapsody third.

With The Ferrari Plate bringing down the shutters on the afternoon’s racing, the Royal Western India Turf Club Mumbai Meeting concluded on a satisfying note, setting the stage for the next chapter in an engaging Mumbai racing season.
