Race 7 – THE LT GEN JAMEEL MAHMOOD MEMORIAL CUP DIV II, a Class IV contest over 1200m for horses rated 21-46 (with rated 1-26 eligible), saw Most And More (J: Nikhil Naidu, T: Rajesh Narredu) deliver a commanding performance. Representing Mr Anil Saraf, Mr Balam Mohla, Mr M Manjunath, Mr Teja Gollapudi & Dr Prabhakar Chowdary Tripuraneni, the winner surged decisively in the straight to claim victory at 04:30 PM, marking one of the standout moments in Kolkata race results 17 January.
From the gates, Most And More settled in mid-division, conserving energy while keeping a close eye on the leaders. As the field entered the home straight, Nikhil Naidu unleashed a decisive burst of speed, steadily closing the gap before taking command in the final 200 meters. The horse’s acceleration and measured stamina ensured a comfortable margin at the finish, leaving the crowd cheering the winner’s impressive display of tactical racing intelligence.
Winsangel (J: Imran Chisty, T: B Mahesh) ran a persistent second, shadowing the leader throughout the straight, while Spirit Bay (J: M S Deora, T: Vikash Jaiswal) closed strongly to secure third. Both runners-up showcased determination and grit, rounding off the podium with competitive times in a thrilling sprint finish.
The earlier races of the day had already set the tone for a competitive card. Race 1, THE CAVALRY CUP (2000m), saw Righteous (J: P. Trevor, T: Arti Doctor, Owner: M/s Manjri Horse Breeders’ Farm Pvt Ltd) take the honours, with Born to Be Spoilt and Dubai Prince completing the podium.
Race 2, THE BENGAL AREA CUP (1100m), went to Victoria Cross (J: Suraj Narredu, T: Neil Darashah, Owner: Ms Ameeta Mehra), followed by Resplendence and Dona Sienna.
Race 3, THE ARMY SERVICE CORPS (ASC) CUP (1400m), produced a convincing victory for Fable (J: P. Trevor, T: Aashay Doctor, Owner: M/s Sarainaga Racing Pvt Ltd), while Anigraha and Oh My Darling finished strongly.
Race 4, THE EASTERN COMMAND CUP (1400m), was dominated by Shine (J: Suraj Narredu, T: Vijay Singh, Owners: M/s Cairnhill Stud Farm Pvt Ltd & M/s Sarainaga Racing Pvt Ltd), with Pantazi and Ghirardelli chasing home.
In Race 5, THE CALCUTTA CHAMPIONS’ SPRINT TROPHY (GRADE III, 1200m), Black Eagle (J: Vishal N Bunde, T: B Rajender Reddy, Owner: Mr Faiz Adam) led from start to finish, leaving Meropi and Pluto behind.
Race 6, THE LT GEN JAMEEL MAHMOOD MEMORIAL CUP DIV I (1200m), was claimed by Surprise Fantasy (J: Suraj Narredu, T: Neil Darashah, Owners: Mr Enrico Piperno, Mr Naresh Kumar Agarwal, Mr Vivek Choudhary, Mr Navin Saraf, Mr Anil Sharma, Mr Asraf Ali Shaikh & Mr Mridul Krishen Sharma), with Cashmere Silk and Marcolini in second and third.
