The winter racing narrative at Calcutta Racecourse continued to unfold in style as Race 4, The Eastern Command Cup, a Class II contest for horses rated 61–86 (41–66 eligible), took centre stage over 1400 metres on Saturday, 17th January 2026, at 3:00 PM. Delivering a performance that stood out in the Kolkata race result 17 January ledger, Shine produced a polished winning effort under Suraj Narredu, scoring decisively for trainer Vijay Singh and owners M/s Cairnhill Stud Farm Pvt Ltd & M/s Sarainaga Racing Pvt Ltd, stopping the clock at 1:24.144.

From the moment the gates opened, Shine travelled with intent, settling into a smooth rhythm before being gradually brought into contention approaching the turn. Narredu timed his move to perfection, asking Shine to quicken inside the final furlong, where the filly responded with a sharp burst to assert control and draw clear when it mattered most.

Chasing valiantly throughout was Pantazi (J: P. Trevor, T: Aashay Doctor), who kept the winner honest and crossed the line second in 1:24.513 after a sustained challenge. Ghirardelli (J: Vishal N. Bunde, T: Neil Darashah) stayed on resolutely to finish third, clocking 1:25.086, rounding out a competitive podium in testing company.

With The Eastern Command Cup decided, attention now turns swiftly to the afternoon’s marquee sprinting spectacle, The Calcutta Champions’ Sprint Trophy (Grade III), set to light up the track at 3:30 PM.
