Incentive-backed contests will form the backbone of Windsor Racecourse seven-race National Hunt programme on Friday, 16 January, with racing scheduled to run from 12:40pm through to 4:05pm. Windsor Race Cards 16 January set out a card shaped by strong prize funds, combining novice hurdles, novice and handicap steeple chases, and a series of competitive Class 2 races across a range of distances.

The structure of the meeting will place sustained emphasis on stamina and jumping, beginning with a three-mile novice hurdle and progressing through a measured sequence of chases and hurdles. With several races carrying significant prize money, the programme is expected to attract well-matched fields throughout the afternoon.

The opener at 12:40pm will be THE THORN PLANT HIRE NOVICES’ HURDLE RACE (CLASS 2), run over three miles and 18 yards and offering prize money of £30,000. Six runners are set to take part, including Moneygarrow, Swindon Village, They Call Me Hugo, Hawthorn Street, and Lifetime In Milan. The extended trip will provide a searching test for novice hurdlers stepping into higher-grade company.

At 1:15pm, the focus will switch to the NOVICES’ LIMITED HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 3) over three miles and 78 yards, with prize money of £20,000 on offer. A field of five is expected, featuring Gamesters Guy, Guard The Moon, Saint Davy, King of Answers, and Queensbury Boy, where stamina and consistent jumping are likely to prove decisive.

The afternoon’s feature novice chase will be staged at 1:50pm with the LIGHTNING NOVICES’ STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 1) (GRADE 2). Contested over two miles and 47 yards, the race will carry prize money of £75,000 and will include Alnilam, Be Aware, Hansard, No Questions Asked, and Roadlesstravelled. Despite the compact field, the quality of the line-up is expected to ensure a true test.

At 2:25pm, the MARES’ HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 2) will be run over two miles, four furlongs, and 60 yards, with prize money totalling £60,000. Nine runners are expected to line up, including Bluey, Hollygrove Cha Cha, All The Glory, Alfie’s Princess, and Georgi Girl, in a contest likely to be closely contested throughout.

The CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL GUIDE HURDLE RACE (CLASS 2) will follow at 3:00pm over two miles and four furlongs and 18 yards. With prize money of £100,000, the race will feature a select field of five, headed by Nemean Lion, Potters Charm, Take No Chances, Altobelli, and Royal Infantry, marking it as one of the strongest hurdle events on the card.

At 3:35pm, the largest field of the meeting will assemble for the SOVEREIGN HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 2) over two miles and 10 yards. Prize money of £110,000 will be shared among sixteen runners, including Wilful, Live Conti, Knickerbockerglory, Go Dante, and Spectacularsunrise, where pace management and positioning are expected to play key roles.

The programme will conclude at 4:05pm with the MPM FLOORING HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 3) over two miles, six furlongs, and 68 yards. Prize money of £20,000 will be on offer to a field of eleven, including Tahmuras, Westerninthepark, Gericault Roque, Margaret’s Legacy, and Storminhome, bringing the Windsor Race Cards 16 January to a competitive close.
