The afternoon’s competitive action at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club continued with Race 3, THE KAMILAH HANDICAP, a Class II contest (rated 61–86; 41–66 eligible) run over 2000 metres at 2:00 PM on Friday, 9 January 2026, during the Calcutta Races Winter Meeting – Second Day. In what will be remembered as a decisive Kolkata race result 9 January, Ruling Star delivered a polished staying performance, with R S Bhati steering the Deepesh Narredu-trained runner to victory in 2:06.898 for owners Mr Deepesh Narredu & Mr Anil Saraf.

Settled into a smooth rhythm through the early stages, Ruling Star travelled comfortably just off the pace before asserting his class once the field straightened for home. Bhati timed the move to perfection, asking his mount to lengthen stride inside the final furlong, where the response was immediate and decisive. The winner quickly put the issue beyond doubt, drawing clear with authority to underline his stamina and racecraft over the testing two-kilometre trip.

Whirlwind (J: M S Deora, T: Vijay Singh) ran on gamely to secure the runner-up spot after tracking the pace, while Golden Warrior (J: Suraj Narredu, T: Deepesh Narredu) stayed on resolutely to finish third, ensuring a strong showing for the Narredu yard among the placings.

With The Kamilah Handicap settled, attention now turns to the upcoming THE FORTUNE CUP scheduled for 2:30 PM, as the Winter Meeting action at Kolkata continues to build towards its key highlights of the day.
