Victorian owner Shane Morrissy has secured Post Impressionist for $225,000 at Inglis Digital November (Late) Sale, setting the 7YO on a path to next year’s Warrnambool Cup.

Moments after the purchase, Morrissy confirmed the horse will join Warrnambool trainer Simon Ryan for the Cup in early May. Post Impressionist was offered by Anthony Freedman Racing on behalf of owners Nick and Lloyd Williams and James Packer.

“I’ve bought a few horses through Inglis Digital over the years and had some luck, so I was happy to go again,” Morrissy said. “$225,000 was about my limit. Post Impressionist has been running in some significant Spring Carnival races and was only beaten 1.9 lengths in a Herbert Power recently. We’ll bring him back a notch and target the Warrnambool Cup.”

Nick Williams added: “The price is reasonable and we hope the buyer enjoys plenty of success. Post Impressionist may not be a Melbourne Cup horse, but he could win a decent staying race. He’s as sound as they come and has a solid racing future ahead.”

The sale’s second-top lot was Moonquake, a half-sister to four-time G1 winner Hartnell, offered in foal to Shinzo and with a Maurice colt FAF, selling to Phoenix Investments for $220,000.

Also featured was a Godolphin draft of nine racehorses and three race fillies, grossing $505,000. The highest seller was 4YO Tarpaulin (Harry Angel), sold to Rosemary Lewis for $105,000.

Upon completion, 122 lots had realised $100,000 or more, with the November (Late) Sale grossing $2,496,900. Entries are now open for the Inglis Digital December (Early) Sale from November 28 to December 3, including last-start winner Aristocrat (Zoustar), Hong Kong qualified and trained by Michael Freedman. Entries close November 26.
