On 23 November, 2025 (Sunday), My Wish heads into the Bank Of China Hong Kong Jockey Club (BOCHK) Private Wealth Jockey Club Mile as one of the most progressive performers of the season, his rise shaped by consistent improvement and a faultless campaign leading into December’s global stage. His partnership with jockey Luke Ferraris has been central to that momentum, with the young rider describing noticeable gains in the horse’s strength, focus and overall maturity.

Ferraris, who has opened the season with 15 wins from the first 20 meetings, believes My Wish has developed exactly as hoped after the off-season. “He’s put on weight — you can feel it in the mornings and in his races. He’s a lot stronger, which is what we were hoping for, and he’s calming down, too. He’s turned into a really professional racehorse,” he said. “You need horses like this in your career. It’ll be a dream come true if he can do something at the International Races, and in the race leading up to it.”

My Wish enters Sunday’s test unbeaten this term after victories in the G3 Celebration Cup (1400m) and the G2 Sha Tin Trophy (1600m). Those performances have pushed him toward the top of the mile division, particularly with last season’s Hong Kong Champion Miler Voyage Bubble stepping up in distance for a separate assignment against Romantic Warrior in the G2 BOCHK Jockey Club Cup (2000m).

My Wish now boasts six wins from 13 starts and HK$25.73 million in earnings. His physical development has been a key theme of the season — having never previously exceeded 1,000lb, he returned at 1,005lb when landing the Celebration Cup in September, providing both Ferraris and trainer Mark Newnham with their first Hong Kong Group-race victories.

His runner-up finish in the BMW Hong Kong Derby earlier in the year also remains a highlight, having drawn barrier 14, raced away from his usual on-pace pattern, and still produced the fastest final 400m of the race in 21.39s.

My Wish tuned up for this weekend with a 1200m barrier trial on 14 November, finishing second in 1m 10.81s behind Ka Ying Rising, the reigning Horse of the Year. Ferraris was satisfied with the hit-out, noting continued improvement in the horse’s composure and barrier behaviour.

Sunday’s meeting also marks the return of Ka Ying Rising in the G2 BOCHK Private Banking Jockey Club Sprint (1200m) as he prepares for next month’s LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint at the Hong Kong International Races.
