The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) will stage the 9th Al Rayyan Race Meeting – Al Thakira Cup this Wednesday, 12 November 2025. The feature contest on the eight-race program is the 6th Race, the Thoroughbred Conditions for Fillies and Mares, offering Qr 90,000 in prize money. Run over 1700 metres, it is expected to attract several of the region’s better-performed mares and provide a genuine test of form and fitness.

The meeting presents a varied card that combines local and international talent across different distances and divisions. Proceedings begin at 16:00, leading up to the day’s main event — the Al Thakira Cup.

Racing opens with the Thoroughbred Handicap 0-60 (Class 6) over 1200 metres at 16:00, with Qr 50,000 on offer. Early speed and sharp execution will be key to securing the first win of the afternoon.

The Purebred Arabian Handicap (50-70) follows at 16:35, also over 1200 metres for Qr 55,000. The race should highlight the finesse and competitive nature of Qatar’s Arabian division.

At 17:10, the Local Thoroughbred Handicap 0-55 takes place across 1900 metres for Qr 50,000, where stamina and well-judged rides will matter most.

The Thoroughbred Handicap 60-80 at 17:45 delivers a brisk 1200-metre dash worth Qr 60,000, featuring capable sprinters looking to build mid-season momentum.

Race 5, the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap 70-90, goes off at 18:20 over 1900 metres with Qr 70,000 at stake — a contest likely to favour durable homebred runners.

The feature 6th Race, Thoroughbred Conditions for Fillies and Mares, is scheduled for 18:45. Covering 1700 metres and carrying Qr 90,000, it brings together several proven performers, making it one of the most anticipated races of the card.

At 19:20, the Purebred Arabian Show Horses and Mares over 1000 metres (Qr 50,000) will display both pace and polish, while the concluding Al Thakira Cup – Local Thoroughbred Premium Maiden Plate at 19:55 over 1700 metres for Qr 85,000 should spotlight emerging local talent ready to progress through the ranks.

With competitive fields and a mix of established names and fresh prospects, the 9th Al Rayyan Race Meeting promises an engaging evening for Qatar’s racing community.
