The second day of the Bangalore Winter Meeting (09 November 2025) witnessed a thrilling finish in Race 5 – The T.B. Hanumantharaj Memorial Trophy, a Class III contest for horses rated 40 to 65, run over 1200 metres at 03:30 PM. In a display of sheer pace and precision, Ziva (J: Suhas. K) produced a powerful late surge to secure victory for trainer V. Lokanath in 1:12.20. The promising filly, racing in the silks of Mr H. K. Lakshman Gowda, Mr Sharath M. Narayana, and Mr V. Lokanath, impressed with a performance that underlined her growing maturity and speed.
Breaking sharply from the gates, Ziva maintained a handy position behind the early leader before Suhas K timed his move to perfection. As the field straightened for home, the filly responded gamely to her rider’s urgings, accelerating past her rivals in the final furlong to seal the win with authority. The well-judged ride and Lokanath’s astute conditioning combined to deliver a memorable result for the connections.
Pole Star (J: Mukesh Kumar, T: Prasanna Kumar) tried valiantly but had to settle for second after being overpowered in the closing stages in 1:12.38, while See The Light (J: A. Sandesh, T: S. S. Attaollahi) kept on resolutely to take third clocking at 1:12.38. The top trio finished within striking distance of each other, reflecting the competitive nature of the race.
With Ziva’s emphatic victory setting the tone, attention now turns to the Bengaluru City Police Cup, scheduled for 04:00 PM, which promises to keep the excitement alive at the Bangalore Turf Club.
