As the ocean breeze sweeps over the Del Mar paddock, horse racing fans are gearing up for a fall season that promises both thrilling finishes and high-stakes wagers. This year’s 12th fall meet, affectionately dubbed the “Bing Crosby Season,” opens Thursday, October 30, and will run through Sunday, November 30 — with a special highlight: the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships on October 31 and November 1.
Del Mar is raising the stakes with a key change to one of its most popular bets. The Pick 6, a favorite among seasoned horseplayers, now carries a $2 minimum wager, up from $1, while maintaining its traditional 80-20 payout structure. This adjustment is designed to generate bigger carryovers, with past single-day carryovers swelling pools into the half-million-dollar range.
“We continue to provide a very strong wagering program for our customers,” said Bill Navarro, Del Mar’s director of mutuals. “We are excited for the return of the Breeders’ Cup and the deep, high-quality fields it brings, offering tremendous value for horseplayers.”
Beyond the Pick 6, bettors can enjoy a full menu of 15 wagering options, ranging from win, place, and show bets to exotic combinations such as Exactas, Quinellas, Trifectas, Superfectas, and the popular $3 Late Pick 3, $5 Late Double, and Middle Pick 4. This extensive lineup ensures both casual fans and seasoned punters have multiple ways to test their skill and luck.
The meet’s opening day kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with a nine-race card. The Breeders’ Cup first posts are set for 11:35 a.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday, with a 10- and 12-race program, respectively. After the championship, Del Mar will settle into a schedule of Fridays through Sundays, with weekday cards featuring eight races and weekend cards nine, all starting at 12:30 p.m.
