TORONTO, October 15, 2025 – The thrill of a champion returning to the spotlight is never lost on racing fans, and Mansetti has the city buzzing ahead of Saturday’s $150,000 Ontario Derby (G3) at Woodbine. Fresh off a courageous runner-up finish in the Prince of Wales Stakes, the 3-year-old bay colt trained by Kevin Attard is ready to translate his King’s Plate glory into another memorable performance.
Owned by Al and Bill Ulwelling, Mansetti captivated audiences with a wire-to-wire victory in the 166th running of The King’s Plate, Canada’s most historic race. “It was a very gutsy performance,” Attard reflected, “and after two demanding races, we wanted to give him time to recharge. Now he’s back, sharp and ready to compete.”
Bred in Ontario by Jungle Racing, LLC, Mansetti is a son of Collected out of Gidget Girl (Sky Mesa). Since debuting last September with a six-furlong win at Woodbine, he has steadily matured, capturing stakes victories in the Clarendon, Woodstock, and Marine Stakes (G3). Attard credits the colt’s growth not just to talent, but to a focused training regimen. “The confidence, the swagger, the mindset — it all came together this past winter. It’s a credit to both the horse and our team,” he said.
Mansetti, who has earned $747,829 from nine starts, faces a competitive Ontario Derby field including Borealis Trail, He’s Not Joking, Runaway Again, Special Session, Wagstaff, and supplement Pretty Capable. Saturday’s race, spanning 1 1/8 miles on Woodbine’s main track, has a first post of 1:05 p.m., with wagering available via HPIbet.com and bet365.
