Jupiter delivered a late charge that left the Woodbine crowd on their feet Sunday, capturing his first stakes win in the $125,000 Display Stakes for 2-year-olds. Under the skillful guidance of Fraser Aebly, the Mark Casse-trained colt proved his class with a perfectly timed surge down the stretch.

The race unfolded with Navy Street and Timeframe taking the early initiative in the compact five-horse field, while 4-5 favourite Jupiter tracked patiently in third, alongside Speights Will and the first-time starter Baaeed Alynna, who broke slowly. Navy Street set a moderate pace, completing the opening quarter in :24.53 and a half in :49.23, as Aebly conserved Jupiter’s energy for the decisive moments.

Entering the stretch, Navy Street appeared to have the race in hand, holding a 2 ½-length lead. But Jupiter, settling into his rhythm, began to close the gap with authority. Baaeed Alynna unleashed a strong outside run, setting up a dramatic final 50 yards. Jupiter surged past the leaders to claim victory by a half-length, with Navy Street finishing second, a nose ahead of Baaeed Alynna. Speights Will and Timeframe rounded out the order, while Streetshavenoname and Lennox the Grey were scratched. The final time for the seven-furlong sprint was 1:24.83.

Aebly reflected on the ride: “With the couple scratches we had in this race, we kind of had to play it from the break and see what happened, and we ended up having a pocket trip on the rail, and it worked out today. When we hit the eighth pole and I really set him down, he found that other gear for me.”

Jupiter, a Kentucky-bred son of Upstart out of the Karakontie mare Magnanimous, debuted at Woodbine on June 22 with a three-length maiden win. The gelding had shown promise with a runner-up finish in the Victoria Stakes on July 12 and a fifth in the Soaring Free Stakes on August 16 before announcing himself as a stakes winner on Sunday. Owned by D.J. Stable LLC, Jupiter returned $3.80 to his backers for the milestone triumph.
