The GERALDTON TURF CLUB, Western Australia, came alive on October 12 for the 2025 Great Western Insurance Brokers Ladies Day — one of the most vibrant and stylish fixtures on the region’s racing calendar. Across seven races from 11:50am to 2:58pm, the atmosphere sparkled with colour, fashion, and fierce competition, as racegoers celebrated the perfect blend of elegance and equine excellence. With the 2025–26 Geraldton season well underway, this special day stood out as both a social and sporting highlight on the Goldfields coast.
Race 1: JORDAN OGLESBY MAIDEN (11:50am, 1403 metres)
The afternoon opened in lively fashion as BELVEDERE ROCK sprinted home in 01:27.40, guided confidently by JOSEPH SEE. Trainer BARRY NEWNHAM had the preparation spot on, while breeder MR A OLIVE could take pride in the win. Owner MR C CAPORN enjoyed a bright start to the day as CANTILEVER and BEST RESULT followed with determined runs.
Race 2: MARK HOUSTON MAIDEN (12:20pm, 1203 metres)
Momentum carried into the second race where HARD SOLO proved too strong, scoring in 01:13.13 under TASH FAITHFULL. ASHLEY MALEY’s sharp conditioning showed its worth, breeder MR G R DAWS added another success to their record, and owner MISS R L POVEY celebrated the win. BUSY FINGERS finished with purpose, while IL BELLO BEALS kept on gamely for a place.
Race 3: SHANNON DILLON HANDICAP (12:50pm, 1403 metres)
In a race demanding stamina and timing, MASTER ALEX answered perfectly to land the spoils in 01:26.02. LAQDAR RAMOLY handled the tempo smartly, and MERYL HAYLEY’s planning paid dividends. Breeder MR C B ATWELL saw pedigree shine through, with owner R L & G P HUMBERSTON RACING joining in the joy. BENTLEY BEAU and MIFF MUFFERED MOOF filled the minor spots with honest runs.
Race 4: KELLY ANN HENDERSON HANDICAP (1:03pm, 1103 metres)
The middle stages brought another gripping finish as DE GRANDHOMME held firm in 01:06.47. JOEY AZZOPARDI kept the ride measured, ADAM DURRANT had the horse in fine shape, and breeder MR E VAN HEEMST’s efforts showed in every stride. Race 5: TONYA MORRISON HANDICAP (1:51pm, 1203 metres)
Competition tightened in the fifth, and THEHORSEMAN delivered under pressure, stopping the clock at 01:11.79. AUSTIN GALATI stayed cool, ALLAN HUGHES’s preparation shone, breeder AMELIA PARK RACING & BREEDING PTY LTD celebrated another fine result, and owner MR F S KILNER took home well-earned honours. SNIPPY WHICH fought gamely to the line, edging PRINCE RAGNAR in a spirited duel.
Race 6: GREAT WESTERN INSURANCE BROKERS LADIES DAY SPRINT (2:25pm, 1203 metres)
As the afternoon advanced, DIVINE INANNA put on a commanding display in 01:12.62. With LAQDAR RAMOLY perfectly in sync and trainer MERYL HAYLEY’s strategy clear, breeder MR G HARVEY could take satisfaction in a job well done. Owners R L & G P HUMBERSTON RACING and MR G J SIMMONS cheered the result as LUCKEE FLORAN and COLLECTIVE rounded out the placings with heart.
Race 7: THE BIG FREEZE IN THE VALLEY HANDICAP (2:58pm, 1403 metres)
The curtain came down in style when PAT’S LAST BANG stormed home in 01:25.51. TASH FAITHFULL showed sharp instincts, ASHLEY MALEY closed the day with a flourish, breeder MR A MALEY added another proud line to the ledger, and owners MR A W MALEY, MR C P PEARCE, MR T W CHURSTAIN, MR H ANDERSON, MR S P HYATT, MRS A C HYATT, MR D BIRKBECK, MR P J BIRKBECK, MR J GENTILUOMO and MR B R WILHELM sealed the meeting on a high. MOONIEMIA ran a brave second, with BATTLE ON BATTLER not far behind in third.
