The opening contest of the Calcutta Races, Monsoon Meeting Tenth Day, set the tone for an exciting Sunday at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club. Race 1, The Bold Display Handicap (Class V, horses rated 1-26), was run over 1100 metres at 12:00 PM on 28th September 2025. It was Happy Morning (J: Antony Raj S., T: B. Mahesh) who delivered a sharp and decisive performance, stopping the clock at 1:07.707 for owner Mr. Suchit Jayaraj Shah, to take home the honours.

Breaking smartly from the gates, Happy Morning showed early speed and settled into a prominent position before quickening decisively in the final furlong. Jockey Antony Raj timed his challenge perfectly, urging the filly to stride clear and maintain her advantage under pressure. Trainer B. Mahesh’s filly demonstrated both pace and resilience, leaving little doubt about the outcome as they surged past the winning post.

Chasing valiantly, Epic Play (J: Chethan Gowda, T: Neil Darashah) closed strongly but had to settle for second in 1:07.933, unable to bridge the slender gap. The third place was claimed by Princess Peach (J: Aleemuddin, T: Patrick Quinn), who kept on well to finish in 1:08.374, completing the frame in this lively sprint.

With the curtain raiser complete, anticipation now builds toward The Tenno Sho Cup, scheduled for 12:30 PM, as the afternoon’s action continues to gather momentum at the Kolkata racecourse.
