The fifth day of the Madras Racing Season 2025 delivered its share of thrills in the 3rd race, The Charon Handicap, a Class IV handicap over 1200 meters, held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 3:20 PM. In a commanding display, Royal Deccan (J: Aleemuddin, T: Arjun Mangalorkar) surged home to victory, clocking 1:15.506. Racing in the silks of Mr Arjun Mangalorkar, Mr Vivek N Rao & M/S. Rapar’s Galloping Stars LLP Rep. by Mr Rajendran, the gelding showcased speed and determination to secure the day’s honors.

Breaking smartly, Royal Deccan settled comfortably before unleashing a decisive burst in the straight. Aleemuddin timed his run with precision, keeping the gelding poised before asking for the final effort in the last furlong. Trainer Arjun Mangalorkar’s handling was evident as Royal Deccan maintained rhythm and stamina to stave off challenges and assert superiority at the wire.

The runner-up berth went to Wood Art (J: Jitendra Singh, T: M M Uthaiah), who finished in 1:16.674, showing grit but falling short of the winner’s turn of foot. Off Shore Breeze (J: Inayat, T: J Sebastian) closed late, also stopping the clock at 1:16.773, to secure third in a close finish that underlined the competitiveness of the field.
