The ninth race of the Pune Meeting 2025, held on Sunday, 21st September at the Royal Western India Turf Club, brought a sharp sprinting test in The Warsaw Pact Trophy (DIV I). Run over 1100 metres for Class IV Indian horses rated 20 to 46, the contest produced a decisive performance from Abhicandra (J: Aditya Waydande, T: Sanjay Kolse), who stormed home in 1:04:396. Racing in the silks of Mr Vikram Bachhawat rep. Bachhawat Farms Pvt Ltd, the three-year-old colt showcased both raw pace and finishing strength to claim the honours.

From the jump, Abhicandra broke smartly and quickly settled into stride, holding a prominent position in the early stages. As the field straightened up for the final dash, Waydande pressed the button, and the colt responded with a telling turn of foot. The acceleration carried him clear of challengers, and despite late pressure, he maintained a commanding advantage to seal a well-judged victory.

The runner-up spot went to Foujita (J: Vivek G., T: Hosidar Daji), who finished with purpose but was unable to match the winner’s finishing thrust. Cinderella’s Dream (J: A. Sandesh, T: Faisal A. Abbas) produced a respectable run to grab third, ensuring her consistency at this level. The margins were decisive, with Abhicandra’s speed marking him as a sprinter of growing promise.

With the Warsaw Pact Trophy settled, the focus now turns to the Bay of Treasure Trophy, scheduled for 5:25 PM, promising another gripping contest on a high-quality card at Pune.
