The 3rd race of the Calcutta Races, Monsoon Meeting Eighth Day, Saturday, 20th September 2025, saw City of Joy (J: Vishal N. Bunde) triumph in The Nightjar Handicap Div I, a Class IV contest for horses rated 21-46 over 1100 metres. Trained by Sabeel Shariff and racing in the colours of Mr Faiz Adam, the winner surged to the front in a sharp 1:07.351, sealing a well-deserved victory.

Breaking smartly from the gates, City of Joy positioned well in the early strides before shifting gears inside the final furlong. Jockey Vishal N. Bunde timed his run to perfection, fending off late challengers with composure. The gelding’s turn of foot in the closing stages ensured that the race was decided by the narrowest of margins but with unquestionable authority.

Kindred Spirit (J: Ankush, T: B. Mahesh) pressed hard through the stretch but had to settle for second, clocking 1:07.395. Just behind, Dance Along (J: Aleemuddin, T: Rajesh Narredu) ran on steadily to take third in 1:07.579, completing a tightly fought finish among the leading trio.

With Div I complete, the action now moves to The Nightjar Handicap Div II at 03:15 PM, as anticipation builds toward the bigger contests later in the afternoon.
