The seventh day of the Calcutta Races Monsoon Meeting got underway on Wednesday, 10th September 2025, with Race 1 – The Immaculate Handicap, a Class V contest for horses rated 1-26 over 1100 metres. In an electrifying start to the afternoon, City Of Joy (J: Vishal N Bunde, T: Sabeel Shariff) stormed home in 1:06.541 to claim top honours, racing in the colours of owner Mr Faiz Adam.

Breaking smartly from the gates, City Of Joy quickly settled into stride and was held in a handy position through the early furlongs. As the field swung into the straight, Vishal N Bunde asked his mount to quicken, and the filly responded with a decisive burst. With a strong drive to the wire, the Shariff-trained runner held his advantage comfortably, showing speed and resilience to open his season account in style.

The runner-up spot went to I Smell The Danger (J: Shezad Khan, T: Sabeel Shariff), who chased gamely but could not reel in his stablemate, finishing in 1:07.428. Diamond Gold (J: Md Azharuddin, T: Rutherford Alford) ran on steadily to secure third place, clocking 1:07.924, rounding off a competitive opening contest.

With the curtain-raiser setting a lively tone, attention now shifts to Race 2 – The Arezzo Handicap at 2:15 PM, promising another closely-fought clash as the afternoon unfolds at the Calcutta Racecourse.
