Day 1 of the 2025/2026 Mysore Monsoon Races concluded at Mysore Race Club with the Ocean Varada Plate Mysore decided in emphatic style. Trained by C. D. Monnappa and ridden by Faiz, Ocean stormed home by over six lengths, stopping the clock at 1:05.315.
Ocean was always travelling strongly just behind the leaders, and when Faiz asked for an effort, the response was immediate. Striding out fluently, he left his rivals well behind and turned the race into a one-horse show, confirming himself as a serious contender for more success this season.
Knotty in Blue, guided by Afsar Khan for trainer Mansoor Khan, stayed on for second, but was two and a half lengths adrift. Falcon Fury, partnered by Y. S. Srinath, finished another two and a quarter lengths back in third for trainer J. Ganesh. Phoenix Gold and Indian Glory filled the remaining slots.
The manner of Ocean’s win brought delight to his connections — Mrs. Preeti C. Shah, Mr. K. M. Shah, Ms. Tejaswini Kishor Mishal, and Mr. Vinod M. Mathurawala — who saw their runner return to the paddock to generous applause. Trainer Monnappa will take heart from the authoritative style of victory, which suggests Ocean is ready for sterner tests ahead.
With the first day of the season concluded, attention now turns to tomorrow, 5th September, when the second race day of the Mysore Monsoon Races 2025/26 will be staged. A total of seven races are scheduled, with the first race starting at 2 PM.
