The 2025/2026 Mysore Monsoon Races event opened on Thursday afternoon with Absolute Katrina stamping her authority in the Season Opener Plate over 1400 metres. Partnered by jockey J. Chinoy and trained by Joseph B. Awale, the filly registered a decisive Absolute Katrina Season Opener Plate win, setting the tone for the day’s action at Mysore Race Club.
There was a lively buzz among the stands as Chinoy guided Absolute Katrina into a perfect position early on before quickening decisively in the final furlong. Carrying 58.5 kilos, she travelled smoothly throughout and had plenty in reserve to hold off her challengers.
Star Symphony, trained by K. Pradeep Annaliah and ridden by J. Paswan, finished second, four lengths adrift, while Turkoman stayed on for third under L. Alex Rozario. Astrologer took fourth ahead of Eye The Mind, Naturally Fly, and Super Sexy, who completed the line-up.
The victory in 1:26.132 seconds brought cheer to trainer Awale’s yard and showcased Absolute Katrina’s readiness for the season. Connections will be optimistic of more success as the Mysore Monsoon campaign unfolds.
