Fontana Wins the Shivalik Showers Plate
The fifth day of the Pune Meeting 2025 drew to a close on Sunday, August 31st, with the running of the Shivalik Showers Plate, a class II handicap for horses rated 60 to 86, staged over 1200 metres at the Pune Racecourse. The contest lived up to its billing with a thrilling finish that kept racegoers on their toes until the final strides.
Fontana produced a sharp turn of foot in the closing stages to take the honours. Guided confidently by jockey Aditya Waydande and prepared by trainer P. S. Chouhan, Fontana crossed the line in 1:08:494. The winner races in the colours of Mr Vijay B. Shirke, Mr Jay V. Shirke, Mrs Vijay B. Shirke, Mr K. N. Dhunjibhoy, Mr Z. K. Dhunjibhoy and Ms Anosha Meyers, representing Five Stars Shipping Co Pvt Ltd and Mr Berjis Minoo Desai.
The runner-up spot went to Timeless Vision, who stayed on well under A. Prakash for trainer Nirad Karanjawala, finishing in 1:08:874. Just behind, Fighton, partnered by N. S. Parmar for trainer M. K. Jadhav, secured third in 1:08:884 after a brave effort.
The result brought the curtain down on a spirited afternoon of racing at Pune, where the day’s card had already produced moments of quality and competitive racing. With Fontana’s victory, attention now turns to the Hyderabad Race Club, which stages its next raceday on Monday, September 1st, 2025.
