There was a kiss from trainer Peter Snowden, a roar from the crowd, and a jubilant jockey’s salute as Raging Force delivered a breathtaking front-running victory in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill today. It was the colt’s fourth consecutive win, but this one felt different — the moment the three-year-old announced himself as a genuine spring contender.
The Snowden stable had even more to cheer about when stablemate Grand Prairie followed up with a gritty win in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes, completing a memorable afternoon for the yard and underlining their strength heading into the spring carnival.
Raging Force Roars to Four Straight
From the moment the gates opened, Raging Force (Cosmic Force) meant business. Surging to the lead under a confident ride, the $150,000 Classic Yearling Sale graduate barely looked troubled as he held off some of the most talented juveniles in his crop. The field featured a Golden Slipper placegetter and a Blue Diamond winner — but it was the son of Cosmic Force who dictated, dominated, and dazzled.
Trainer Peter Snowden, visibly delighted after the race, summed up the performance:
“That was a good test for him today because the field had a Slipper placegetter and a Blue Diamond winner. He met A-graders, not Benchmark horses, and he’s won well. Whatever you throw at him, he chases hard.”
Bred by Dr. Richard McClenahan and purchased by Darby Racing from the draft of Mullaglass Stud, Raging Force is quickly becoming the poster colt for both his breeder and owners. McClenahan, who also bred Group 1-winning stallion Hellbent, couldn’t hide his pride:
“It’s fantastic, we’re really proud of him. He was a beautiful, athletic colt and my wife Kim loved him as a young horse. When Darby bought him, we jumped at the chance to stay in the ownership. It’s exciting times ahead.”
Grand Prairie Delivers Inglis Trifecta
While Raging Force stole the headlines, stablemate Grand Prairie (Written Tycoon) produced his own moment of class in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes. Coming off a Stakes placing in The Rosebud, the colt displayed resilience and determination to edge out Fermoy and Crown The King, leading home an Inglis graduates trifecta.
Offered by his breeder Yulong at the Easter Yearling Sale, Grand Prairie remains in Yulong’s ownership and is rewarding the decision handsomely.
Snowden, again full of praise, said:
“It was a race we pinpointed after his last run and it’s good to pull it off like that. He’s a talented horse and there’s more to come.”
Spring Carnival Now Beckons
With Raging Force’s San Domenico Stakes triumph and Grand Prairie’s Up And Coming Stakes success, Snowden Racing heads into the spring brimming with confidence. Raging Force is expected to tackle the Run To The Rose next, which will determine whether he steps up to the Golden Rose or sticks to shorter sprints.
For the stable, owners, and breeders alike, today was a statement: the Snowden team is ready for a big spring, and Raging Force has announced himself as one of the horses to beat.
