There was an air of celebration at Newmarket as Tattersalls, Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneers, confirmed an extended partnership with Newmarket Racecourses, securing sponsorship of three prestigious juvenile contests on Cambridgeshire Day 2025. The announcement has brought an extra buzz to the Rowley Mile ahead of one of Britain’s most anticipated autumn fixtures.
It was a proud moment for the Home of Horseracing, with Sophie Able, International Director at Newmarket Racecourses, and John Morrey, Director of Park Paddocks & Maintenance at Tattersalls, pictured together marking the milestone deal. The new agreement reaffirms Tattersalls’ long-standing commitment to British racing and its role at the heart of Newmarket’s racing and bloodstock heritage.
Tattersalls Sponsorship Powers Cambridgeshire Day
The 2025 Cambridgeshire Day, set for Saturday, September 27, will see Tattersalls back three of the most significant juvenile contests on the calendar. The highlight races include the £275,000 Group One Middle Park Stakes for colts and the £275,000 Group One Cheveley Park Stakes for fillies — both run over six furlongs.
Completing the trio is the £125,000 Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes, staged over a mile and exclusively for colts and geldings. These races have a storied history of producing future Classic stars, and the 2024 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Lake Victoria proved just that, going on to triumph in this year’s Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh.
With such rich pedigrees and prize money on offer, Cambridgeshire Day 2025 is already shaping up to be one of the standout fixtures of the season.
Tattersalls’ Deep-Rooted Legacy at Newmarket
Founded in 1766, Tattersalls has been a cornerstone of the global thoroughbred market for more than two and a half centuries. Its Park Paddocks headquarters, established in the heart of Newmarket in 1965, has hosted many of the world’s most influential yearling sales and historic auction moments.
The company’s sponsorship portfolio already includes the Group One Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at the Debenhams July Festival and the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes on BetMGM Sun Chariot Day (October 4). With the Somerville and October Yearling Sales on the horizon, this latest extension strengthens Tattersalls’ ties to the Rowley Mile even further.
Leadership Reactions
Edmond Mahony, Chairman of Tattersalls, expressed his enthusiasm:
“Tattersalls have long been proud supporters of British racing and Newmarket Racecourses, and we are delighted to sponsor the 2025 editions of the time-honoured Middle Park, Cheveley Park, and Royal Lodge Stakes.
These races complement our existing sponsorships and underline our commitment to staging world-class racing at Newmarket. The Cambridgeshire Meeting is one of the highlights of the British racing calendar, and we look forward to working with Newmarket to deliver an outstanding programme.”
Sophie Able echoed those sentiments:
“There is always a tremendous energy about Newmarket in the autumn, with the combination of the world’s finest bloodstock going through the ring at Tattersalls and racing of the highest class on the Rowley Mile. We are thrilled to have Tattersalls backing these three principal juvenile contests at the Cambridgeshire Meeting in 2025.”
