Gulfstream Park Sheer Drama Promises Thrilling Action for Fillies and Mares

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park Sheer Drama headlines an electrifying weekend as top-class fillies and mares line up for two standout stakes races: the $75,000 Sheer Drama Handicap and the $70,000 Frolic’s Revenge overnight handicap. Both races are scheduled on Saturday, with first post at 12:50 p.m., promising exciting contests for racing fans.

Haulin Ice Eyes Fifth Straight Win in $75,000 Sheer Drama

C2 Racing Stable, Paul Braverman, Miller Racing, and Timothy Pinch’s Grade 3 star Haulin Ice will look to extend her four-race winning streak in the Sheer Drama, a seven-furlong sprint for fillies and mares three years and older. Her stablemate Claret Beret, a Grade 2-placed contender, will also make waves, creating a compelling matchup.

The 4-year-old Arkansas-bred daughter of Coal Front has compiled nine wins from 15 starts, earning $828,900, including five stakes victories. Her current streak features dominant front-running performances, with margins ranging from a neck in the May 4 Vagrancy (G3) at Aqueduct to a six-length victory at Oaklawn Park on March 1. Most recently, she captured the 6½-furlong Musical Romance at Gulfstream by 3¼ lengths.

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., leading the Royal Palm Meet, views the Sheer Drama as a prep for the $200,000 Princess Rooney (G2) on September 20, a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” qualifier. Haulin Ice carries topweight of 127 pounds with jockey Edgard Zayas aboard from Post 7.

Joseph remarked, “Haulin Ice goes in there a deserving favorite. This is a prep for the Princess Rooney. We will be sportsmanlike and take our chance.”

Rated at 9-5, Haulin Ice is narrowly behind Claret Beret on the morning line (7-5). The five-time winner Claret Beret, under Micah Husbands from Post 2, will look to challenge her stablemate after recent standout performances including a 19¾-length victory in the Mo Green overnight handicap at Gulfstream on May 11.

Rumours Have It, Whisper Hill Farm’s Tapit filly out of Songbird, is rated at 7-2 and could upset the top pair. Trainer Kent Sweezey praised her front-running form after a dominant 10¼-length optional claiming allowance win on a sloppy Gulfstream track on July 4.

Other Sheer Drama entrants include Vincey Girl, Gallop d’Hermes, July 12 Azalea runner-up Nerazurri, Puckered, and last-out winners Poiema and Royal Poppy.

Starship Impulsive Seeks Fourth Consecutive Win in Frolic’s Revenge

Starship Stables’ Starship Impulsive, a 3-year-old daughter of multiple Grade 1 winner Improbable, will aim for a fourth straight win in the $70,000 Frolic’s Revenge, a one-mile turf contest. She has claimed victories in the Honey Ryder (May 3) and Martha Washington (June 7) at Gulfstream, dominating her rivals in each outing.

Trainer Steve Dwoskin commented, “She’s feeling good and training well. She’s matured and knows the game. She likes to get out there and dares them to come after her.”

Jockey Leonel Reyes returns from Post 2 to ride Starship Impulsive. Among her competitors are Lets Go Koko, trained by Rory Miller; Ashima, rebounding from a loss in June; multiple stakes winner Charlie’s Wish; Oshala; and stakes-placed runners Crafty Collector and Sensitivity. Starship Impulsive’s consistent front-running style and sharp turf form make her a formidable contender.

Trainer Dwoskin also entered Starship Agenda, a 5-year-old mare from off the pace, ready to compete whether the race comes off turf or remains on the Tapeta surface.

Saturday at Gulfstream Park promises a thrilling showcase of talent as Haulin Ice, Claret Beret, and Starship Impulsive highlight top-class competition for fillies and mares. Racing fans can expect intense speed duels, strategic rides, and possibly record-breaking performances in both the Sheer Drama and Frolic’s Revenge.
