The Awesome Indian Handicap Win for Sky Hawk at Calcutta Races
The Royal Calcutta Turf Club brought down the curtain on the Monsoon Meeting third day with the 1,200-metre, The Awesome Indian Handicap, a race for horses rated 21–46 carrying a total stake of ₹4,00,000. As the final contest of the afternoon, it promised a quickfire climax, and delivered in style.
Sky Hawk, trained by Sabeel Shariff and ridden by Vishal Bunde, broke sharply and maintained a prominent position throughout. In the dash to the line, he held his ground gamely, scoring in 1:14.165 to seal a fitting finale to the Calcutta card.
Owned by Mr Shanmugam Yuvraj, Sky Hawk’s victory was built on early pace and measured control, leaving little room for the chasing pack to make inroads.
Sabar, guided by P Trevor for Aashay Doctor, finished a close second in 1:14.452, while Trillionaire, with Shezad Khan up for B Rajender Reddy, was just a whisker behind in 1:14.460 to claim third.
With The Awesome Indian Handicap concluded, the Calcutta Races’ Monsoon Meeting third day came to a thrilling close. Racing fans now turn their attention westward, as the action shifts to Pune for two consecutive race days on August 15 and August 16, 2025, promising another burst of competitive turf action.
